Objective: To evaluate the positional relationship between protective channel and sural nerve while treating acute Achilles tendon rupture with channel assisted minimally invasive repair (CAMIR) technique based on anatomical observations of cadaver specimens.

Methods: Twelve adult cadaveric lower limb specimens (6 left, 6 right) were utilized. A CAMIR device was implanted at a distance of 4 cm from the proximal end of the specimen to the Achilles tendon insertion.

Osteoporosis, a complex chronic disease with increasing prevalence, is characterised by reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and increased fracture risk. The high heritability of BMD suggests substantial impact of the individual genetic disposition on bone phenotypes and the development of osteoporosis. In the past years, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) identified hundreds of genetic variants associated with BMD or osteoporosis.

Local anisotropy in mineralized fibrocartilage and subchondral bone beneath the tendon-bone interface.

Sci Rep

Mechanics of Biological and Bioinspired Materials Laboratory, Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Liège, Quartier Polytech 1, Allée de la Découverte 9, 4000, Liège, Belgium.

The enthesis allows the insertion of tendon into bone thanks to several remarkable strategies. This complex and clinically relevant location often features a thin layer of fibrocartilage sandwiched between tendon and bone to cope with a highly heterogeneous mechanical environment. The main purpose of this study was to investigate whether mineralized fibrocartilage and bone close to the enthesis show distinctive three-dimensional microstructural features, possibly to enable load transfer from tendon to bone.

Identification of PIEZO1 polymorphisms for human bone mineral density.

Bone mineral density (BMD) is a key indicator for diagnosis and treatment for osteoporosis; the reduction of BMD could increase the risk of osteoporotic fracture. It was very recently found that Piezo1 mediated mechanically evoked responses in bone and further participated in bone formation in mice. Here, we performed cross phenotype meta-analysis for human BMD at lumbar spine (LS), femoral neck (FN), distal radius/forearm (FA) and heel and screened out 14 top SNPs for PIEZO1, these SNPs were overlapped with putative enhancers, DNase-I hypersensitive sites and active promoter flanking regions.

Minimally invasive internal fixation of calcaneal fractures or subtalar joint arthrodesis using the Calcanail®.

Oper Orthop Traumatol

April 2019

Klinik und Poliklinik für Unfall‑, Hand- und Wiederherstellungschirurgie, Universitätsmedizin Rostock, Schillingallee 35, 18057, Rostock, Germany.

Objective: A minimally invasive technique to prevent soft tissue problems using a calcaneal nail (Calcanail®, FH Orthopedics, Heimsbrunn, France) for calcaneal fractures or in subtalar joint arthrodesis is described.

Indications: Displaced extra-articular calcaneal fractures involving the tuberosity fragment and in displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures with impression and/or displacement of the subtalar joint surface. Subtalar joint arthrodesis for posttraumatic subtalar osteoarthritis.
