Recent findings showing a relation between mutations in the Na(V)1.7 channel in humans and altered pain sensation has contributed to increase the attractiveness of this ion channel as target for development of potential analgesics. Amido chromanes 1 and 2 were identified as blockers of the Na(V)1.7 channel and analogues with modifications of the 5-substituent and the carboxamide part of the molecule were prepared to establish the structure-activity relationship. Compounds 13 and 29 with good overall in vitro and in vivo rat PK profile were identified. Furthermore, 29 showed in vivo efficacy in a nociceptive pain model.

Pesticides, including insecticides, are indispensable for large-scale agriculture. Modulating chloride ion channels has proven highly successful as a mode of action (MoA) for insect management. Identifying new ligands for these channels affords opportunities for the potential development of new insecticide products.

Accelerating stomatal kinetics through synthetic optogenetics and mutations that enhance guard cell K+ flux has proven a viable strategy to improve water use efficiency and biomass production. Stomata of the model C4 species Gynandropsis gynandra, a relative of the C3 plant Arabidopsis thaliana, are similarly fast to open and close. We identified and cloned the guard cell rectifying outward K+ channel (GROK) of Gynandropsis and showed that GROK is preferentially expressed in stomatal guard cells.

Petroleum hydrocarbon pollution causes significant damage to soil, so accurate prediction and early intervention are crucial for sustainable soil management. However, traditional soil analysis methods often rely on statistical methods, which means they always rely on specific assumptions and are sensitive to outliers. Existing machine learning based methods convert features containing spatial information into one-dimensional vectors, resulting in the loss of some spatial features of the data.

Adsorption behaviors are typically examined through adsorption isotherms, which measure the average adsorption amount as a function of partial pressure or time. However, this method is incapable of identifying inhomogeneities across the adsorbent, which may occur in the presence of strong intermolecular interactions of the adsorbate. In this study, we visualize the adsorption of molecular iodine (I) in the metal-organic framework material MFM-300(Sc) using high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM).
