The results of argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) in a series of 254 eyes are presented with a follow-up of over five years. ALT was effective in lowering the IOP in most cases of primary open angle glaucoma (56.3%). Several complications were observed. These included anterior uveitis, hemorrhage, formation of peripheral anterior synechiae, elevation of IOP. The most serious complication observed was presumed sympathetic ophthalmia in an aphakic eye with uveitic glaucoma 12 months after ALT.
