Published: November 1990

The image of psychiatry is directly related to the knowledge that the public has of psychiatry and to the psychiatrists role as a "public informer". The time has come for psychiatrists to organize and have their opinions on all aspects of the mental health care system and mental illness heard in the media. After a review of different causes of the negative public image of psychiatrists, the reasons for which psychiatrists need to change their public image are outlined with some suggestions for increase public recognition. The importance of developing more research on the effect of mass media on the mental health care system is also outlined.

Research Progress on the Application of MALDI-MSI in Hair Analysis.

Fa Yi Xue Za Zhi

December 2024

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Forensic Medicine, Key Laboratory of Forensic Science, Ministry of Justice, Shanghai Forensic Service Platform, Academy of Forensic Science, Shanghai 200063, China.

Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is an emerging high-tech "photography" method combining mass spectrometry and image visualization technologies, which can simultaneously monitor the spatial distribution of multiple molecules in biological samples. In recent years, the characteristics of this technology have been used to visually study the distribution of drugs in hair, among which matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometry imaging(MALDI-MSI) technology has been most widely applied in hair analysis. Based on the principle of MALDI-MSI technology, this paper discusses the key technical elements of MALDI-MSI technology applied to hair analysis and reviews the research achievements of MSI in hair analysis.

Artificial Intelligence Versus Human Intelligence in Presurgical Implant Planning: A Preclinical Validation.

Clin Oral Implants Res

March 2025

OMFS-IMPATH Research Group, Department of Imaging and Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.

Objectives: To validate an innovative artificial intelligence (AI)-driven tool for automated virtual implant placement by comparing its accuracy, implant dimension selection, time efficiency, and consistency with a human intelligence (HI)-based approach for single posterior tooth replacement.

Materials And Methods: A dataset of 50 time-matched cone-beam computed tomography and intraoral scans with a single missing posterior mandibular tooth was selected to validate a pre-trained AI model for virtual implant placement against a HI-based approach. A quantitative comparison of implant location and implant dimension selection was conducted between AI and HI, and a qualitative three-dimensional evaluation was conducted by three implant dentistry specialists using a visual analog scale and a Turing test to assess and distinguish between AI and HI.

Department of Oral Surgery, Stomatology, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology, Bauru School Dentistry, University Of São Paulo, Bauru, Brazil.

The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic caused, in 2020, a serious and urgent health issue worldwide, establishing social distancing rules, which changed daily life in all its aspects. Work relationships and socialization became possible only through virtual networks. As a result, there has been an extreme increase in the exposure of people in general to their own image for many hours a day through cameras and video conferencing applications.

Animal models offer invaluable insights into disease mechanisms but cannot entirely mimic the variability and heterogeneity of human populations, nor the increasing prevalence of multi-morbidity. Consequently, employing human samples-such as whole blood or fractions, valvular and vascular tissues, myocardium, pericardium, or human-derived cells-is essential for enhancing the translational relevance of cardiovascular research. For instance, myocardial tissue slices, which preserve crucial structural and functional characteristics of the human heart, can be used in vitro to examine drug responses.
