Modelling shows that the pore size distribution of microporous carbons determined by NLDFT only hides relatively small variations of the surface-related capacitance C/S between 0.7 and 1.3 nm. This suggests again that C/S in TEABF(4)-AN is 0.09 ± 0.01 F m(-2) for our typical carbons, including carbide-based samples.

This study investigates the microstructural characterization of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and microcellulose (MC) extracted from bamboo fibers () and their potential as reinforcement agents in ordinary Portland cement (OPC) composites. CNC with a mean particle size of 29.3 nm and MC with a mean size of 14.

Phase change fibers (PCFs) can effectively store and release heat, improve energy efficiency, and provide a basis for a wide range of energy applications. Improving energy storage density and preserving flexibility are the primary issues in the efficient manufacture and application development of PCFs. Herein, we have successfully fabricated a suite of flexible PCFs with high energy storage density, which use hollow carbon fibers (HCFs) encapsulated phase change materials (PCMs) to provide efficient heat storage and release, thereby enhancing energy efficiency and underpinning a broad range of energy applications.

In this study, polysulfone/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PSf/PVP, 20 wt%/5 wt%)-based ultrafiltration (UF) membranes reinforced with different ratios (0.5 and 1 wt%) of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and cellulose nanofibres (CNFs) were prepared by the phase inversion method. The effect of CNC, CNF, and CNC-CNF reinforcement on the morphology, roughness, crystallinity, porosity, average pore size, mechanical properties, and filtration performance of PSf/PVP-based membrane was investigated.

Poor breathability, inadequate flexibility, bulky wearability, and insufficient gas-adsorption capacity always limit the developments and applications of conventional chemical protective clothing (CPC). To create a lightweight, breathable, and flexible fabric with a high gas-absorption capacity, activated carbon (AC)-loaded poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) porous composite fibres were fabricated from a mixed wet-spinning process integrated with a solvent-free phase separation process. By manipulating the pore parameters of as-spun composite fibres, the exposure-immobilization of AC particles on the fibre surface can offer a higher gas-absorption capacity and better AC-loading stability.

Medicinal plants are increasingly being explored due to their possible pharmacological properties and minimal adverse effects. However, low bioavailability and stability often limit efficacy, necessitating high oral doses to achieve therapeutic levels in the bloodstream. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) offer a potential solution to these limitations.
