Design and fabrication of reliable electrodes is one of the most important challenges in flexible devices, which undergo repeated deformation. In conventional approaches, mechanical and electrical properties of continuous metal films degrade gradually because of the fatigue damage. The designed incorporation of nanoholes into Cu electrodes can enhance the reliability. In this study, the electrode shows extremely low electrical resistance change during bending fatigue because the nanoholes suppress crack initiation by preventing protrusion formation and damage propagation by crack tip blunting. This concept provides a key guideline for developing fatigue-free flexible electrodes.

Sm-doped Pb(MgNb)O-PbTiO (Sm-PMN-PT) bulk materials have revealed outstanding ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties due to enhanced local structural heterogeneity. In this study, we further explore the potential of Sm-PMN-PT by fabricating epitaxial thin films by pulsed laser deposition, revealing that Sm doping significantly improves the capacitive energy-storage, piezoelectric, electrocaloric, and pyroelectric properties of PMN-PT thin films. These Sm-PMN-PT thin films exhibit fatigue-free performance up to 10 charge-discharge cycles and maintain thermal stability across a wide temperature range from -40 to 200 °C.

Objective: Hybrid systems that integrate Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and robotic assistance have been proposed in neurorehabilitation to enhance therapeutic benefits. This study focuses on designing a cooperative controller capable of distributing the required torque for movement between robotic actuation and FES, thereby eliminating the need for time-consuming calibration procedures.

Methods: The control schema comprises three main blocks: a motion generation block that defines the desired trajectory, a motor control block including both a weight compensation feedforward and a feedback impedance controller, and an FES control block, based on trial-by-trial Iterative Learning Control (ILC), that adjusts the stimulation intensity according to a predefined stimulation waveform.

Ferroelectric materials have switchable electrical polarization that is appealing for high-density nonvolatile memories. However, inevitable fatigue hinders practical applications of these materials. Fatigue-free ferroelectric switching could dramatically improve the endurance of such devices.

Recent progress in two-dimensional ferroelectrics greatly expands the versatility and tunability in van der Waals heterostructure based electronics. However, the switching endurance issue that widely plagues conventional ferroelectrics in practical applications is hitherto unexplored for van der Waals layered ferroelectrics. Herein, we report the observation of unusual polarization fatigue behaviors in van der Waals layered CuInPS, which also possesses finite ionic conductivity at room temperature.

In this Letter, we report and experimentally demonstrate the multi-plane augmented reality (AR) by combining the reflective polarization volume lens (PVL) and electrically controlled transmissive Pancharatnam-Berry (PB) liquid crystal (LC) lens. This strategy is based on the electrically controlled power-based approach, which significantly alleviates the challenge of vergence-accommodation conflict (VAC) of the current near-eye display (NED). As a proof of concept, a birdbath architecture dual-plane optical see-through (OST) display was implemented experimentally by changing the power of the lens.
