Although music is universal, there is a great deal of cultural variability in music structures. Nevertheless, some aspects of music processing generalize across cultures, whereas others rely heavily on the listening environment. Here, we discuss the development of musical knowledge, focusing on four themes: (a) capabilities that are present early in development; (b) culture-general and culture-specific aspects of pitch and rhythm processing; (c) age-related changes in pitch perception; and (d) developmental changes in how listeners perceive emotion in music.

Exposure to sound energy may be a risk factor or a therapeutic intervention for Alzheimer's disease (AD). On one hand, noise has a harmful effect on people with AD by contributing to hearing loss, sleep disturbance, oxidative stress, inflammation, and excitotoxicity. But on the other hand, clinical trials and nursing home interventions with soundscape augmentation involving natural sounds have shown promising results in alleviating psychophysiological symptoms in people with AD.

The explosion of pop culture in Britain between the late 1950s and the late sixties is usually taken to have been an urban phenomenon. Pop was the 'sound of the city' in Britain as much as America. But what kind of 'urban' was involved-big city, small town, centre, suburb? What kind of geographical reach did pop have across the different parts of the United Kingdom in the 1960s? What was the significance of London in a cultural movement that was simultaneously national and international? Understanding where pop was made and performed in its formative years helps explain why it took off so spectacularly in sixties Britain; it illuminates why post-war Britain was so receptive to and generative of pop music as well as the music's nationwide appeal.

Importance: Cochlear implants enable improvements in speech perception, but music perception outcomes remain variable. Image-guided cochlear implant programming has emerged as a potential programming strategy for increasing the quality of spectral information delivered through the cochlear implant to improve outcomes.
Objectives: To perform 2 experiments, the first of which modeled the variance in music perception scores as a function of electrode positioning factors, and the second of which evaluated image-guided cochlear implant programming as a strategy to improve music perception with a cochlear implant.

In this investigation, we delve into the neural underpinnings of auditory processing of Sanskrit verse comprehension, an area not previously explored by neuroscientific research. Our study examines a diverse group of 44 bilingual individuals, including both proficient and non-proficient Sanskrit speakers, to uncover the intricate neural patterns involved in processing verses of this ancient language. Employing an integrated neuroimaging approach that combines functional connectivity-multivariate pattern analysis (fc-MVPA), voxel-based univariate analysis, seed-based connectivity analysis, and the use of sparse fMRI techniques to minimize the interference of scanner noise, we highlight the brain's adaptability and ability to integrate multiple types of information.

Literature indicates a significant improvement in autobiographical memory (ABM) recall for different individuals during background music sessions. Existing research is based solely on qualitative data, although music has a significant impact on physiological activity.
