Due to extensive bioprospecting efforts of the past and technology factors, there have been questions about drug discovery prospect from untapped species. We analyzed recent trends of approved drugs derived from previously untapped species, which show no sign of untapped drug-productive species being near extinction and suggest high probability of deriving new drugs from new species in existing drug-productive species families and clusters. Case histories of recently approved drugs reveal useful strategies for deriving new drugs from the scaffolds and pharmacophores of the natural product leads of these untapped species. New technologies such as cryptic gene-cluster exploration may generate novel natural products with highly anticipated potential impact on drug discovery.

Water contaminated with chromium (Cr) poses significant risks to public health and the environment, necessitating reliable detection techniques. This review study uniquely provides a comprehensive analysis of optical methods for detecting Cr pollution in water, focusing on both reagent-based and reagentless approaches, as well as various sensing platforms. Uncultured microorganisms represent a promising and untapped source of antibacterial compounds, crucial in the fight against the significant threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In this study, both traditional and isolation chip (iChip) cultivation techniques were employed to enhance the recovery of known and unknown microorganisms from soils located in Normandy, France. The isolates obtained were identified using 16S rDNA or ITS regions analysis and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and were screened for antibacterial activity.
