In the title compound, C(17)H(18)N(2)O(3)S, the dihedral angles between the thio-phene ring and the ethyl ester group and the pyridine-4-carboxamide unit are 7.1 (2) and 9.47 (11)°, respectively. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond generates an S(6) ring. In the crystal, inversion dimers linked by pairs of C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the tetra-hydro-1-benzothio-phene and the pyridine-4-carboxamide residues generate R(2) (2)(16) loops. There exists positional disorder in three methelene groups of the cyclo-hexane ring and the terminal C atom of the ethyl ester side chain in a 0.691 (14):0.309 (14) occupancy ratio.

Methylenebisphosphonic derivatives including hydroxy-methylenebisphosphonic species may be of potential biological activity, and a part of them is used in the treatment of bone diseases. Methylenebisphosphonates may be obtained by the Michaelis-Arbuzov reaction of suitably α-substituted methylphosphonates and trialkyl phosphites or phosphinous esters, while the hydroxy-methylene variations are prepared by the Pudovik reaction of α-oxophosphonates and different >P(O)H reagents, such as diethyl phosphite and diarylphosphine oxides. After converting α-hydroxy-benzylphosphonates and -phosphine oxides to the α-halogeno- and α-sulfonyloxy derivatives, they were utilized in the Michaelis-Arbuzov reaction with trialkyl phosphites and ethyl diphenylphosphinite to afford the corresponding bisphosphonate, bis(phosphine oxide) and phosphonate-phosphine oxide derivatives.

The utilization of the homogeneous ()-2-pyrrolidine-tetrazole organocatalyst (Ley catalyst) in the self-condensation of ethyl pyruvate and cross-aldol reactions of ethyl pyruvate donor with non-enolizable pyruvate acceptors, namely the sterically hindered ethyl 3-methyl-2-oxobutyrate or the highly electrophilic methyl 3,3,3-trifluoropyruvate, is described as the key enantioselective step toward the synthesis of the corresponding biologically relevant isotetronic acids featuring a quaternary carbon functionalized with ester and alkyl groups. The transition from homogeneous to heterogeneous flow conditions is also investigated, detailing the fabrication and operation of packed-bed reactors filled with a silica-supported version of the pyrrolidine-tetrazole catalyst (SBA-15 as the matrix).

The formation of water structures can provide significant benefits in organic reactions, stabilizing charge and lowering activation energies. Hydrolysis reactions will frequently rely on water networks to accomplish these goals. Here, we used computational chemistry and experimental kinetics to investigate a model thioester molecule S-ethyl trifluorothioacetate, and extended work on a previously characterized ester p-nitrophenyl trifluoroacetate.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) or eczema is an important inflammatory chronic skin disease that brings many complications in its management and treatment. Although several chemical agents are used for treatment, the search for better anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agents of plant origin has been ongoing, since natural compounds, it is commonly believed, are less dangerous than synthetic ones. Therefore, the present study explored a medicinal plant- (L.

In a previous experiment, we showed that the odor of manure slurries could be improved by anaerobic incubation with the sugars glucose, lactose, and sucrose. This improvement was due to reductions in the concentrations of malodorants, including dimethyl disulfide, -cresol, -ethylphenol, indole, and skatole, and a shift to the production of fruity esters, including ethyl butyrate and propyl propanoate. Due to large concentrations of lactic acid produced by the sugar-amended manure slurries, we inferred that lactic acid bacteria were involved in improving the manure slurry odor.
