Mir-615-5p inhibits cervical cancer progression by targeting TMIGD2.

Hereditas

January 2025

Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical Centre, The First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, No.105, Shaoshan Middle Road, Yuhua District, Changsha, 410007, Hunan, China.

Background: Cervical cancer (CC) is a prevalent gynecological malignancy, contributing to a substantial number of fatalities among women. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as promising biomarkers with significant potential for the early detection and prognosis of CC.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the clinical significance and biological role of miR-615-5p in CC, with the goal of identifying novel biomarkers for this disease.

Introduction: With the increasing impact of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) on society, there is an urgent need to propose new HCC diagnostic biomarkers and identification models. Histone lysine lactylation (Kla) affects the prognosis of cancer patients and is an emerging target in cancer treatment. However, the potential of Kla-related genes in HCC is poorly understood.

Spatial transcriptomics has emerged as a powerful tool for discerning the heterogeneity of the tumour microenvironment across various cancers, including renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Spatial transcriptomics-based studies conducted in clear-cell RCC (the only RCC subtype studied using this technique to date) have given insights into spatial interactions within this disease. These insights include the role of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transitioning, revealing proximity-dependent interactions between tumour cells, fibroblasts, interleukin-2-expressing macrophages and hyalinized regions.

Epigenetics and individuality: from concepts to causality across timescales.

Nat Rev Genet

January 2025

Institute of Ecology and Evolution, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR, USA.

Traditionally, differences among individuals have been divided into genetic and environmental causes. However, both types of variation can underlie regulatory changes in gene expression - that is, epigenetic changes - that persist across cell divisions (developmental differentiation) and even across generations (transgenerational inheritance). Increasingly, epigenetic variation among individuals is recognized as an important factor in human diseases and ageing.

The current mortality rates for breast cancer underscore the need for better prognostic tools; moreover, LIM and calponin homology domain 1 (LIMCH1), which is a protein with dual roles in cancer, is a promising candidate for investigation. This study employed an integrative approach combining bioinformatics analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort and clinical immunohistochemistry (IHC) cohort data. We analysed LIMCH1 expression patterns, its associations with clinicopathological features and prognosis, and its impact on the tumour immune microenvironment (TIME).
