Despite considerable efforts in developing curve-fitting protocols to evaluate the crystallinity index (CI) from X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements, in its present state XRD can only provide a qualitative or semi-quantitative assessment of the amounts of crystalline or amorphous fraction in a sample. The greatest barrier to establishing quantitative XRD is the lack of appropriate cellulose standards, which are needed to calibrate the XRD measurements. In practice, samples with known CI are very difficult to prepare or determine. In a previous study, we reported the development of a simple algorithm for determining fiber crystallinity information from Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Hence, in this study we not only compared the fiber crystallinity information between FT-IR and XRD measurements, by developing a simple XRD algorithm in place of a time-consuming and subjective curve-fitting process, but we also suggested a direct way of determining cotton cellulose CI by calibrating XRD with the use of CI(IR) as references.

Polymer nanoparticles with low curvature, especially two-dimensional (2D) soft materials, are rich in functions and outstanding properties and have received extensive attention. Crystallization-driven self-assembly (CDSA) of linear semicrystalline block copolymers is currently a common method of constructing 2D platelets of uniform size. Although accompanied by high controllability, this CDSA method usually and inevitably requires a longer aging time and lower assembly concentration, limiting the large-scale preparation of nanoaggregates.

Carbon-based nanofibers are critical materials with broad applications in industries such as energy, filtration, and biomedical devices. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is a primary precursor for carbon nanofibers, but conventional electrospinning techniques typically operate at low production rates of 0.1-1 mL/h from a single spinneret, limiting scalability.

The effects of wheat bran dietary fiber (WBDF) treated by air flow micro-pulverization on gelatinization, thermal, rheological, structural properties, and in vitro digestion of wheat starch (WS) were investigated. Different particle sizes of WBDF were obtained by conventional knife grinding and airflow micro-grinding. Compared with conventional knife grinding, the particle size of WBDF treated by air flow micro-pulverization decreased, the particle size distribution was concentrated at small particle sizes, the specific surface area increased, and the hydraulic and oil-holding power decreased, which was mainly related to the change of WBDF spatial structure and the increase of solubility.

The cross-linking process of collagen is one of the more important ways to improve the mineralization ability of collagen. However, the regulatory effect of dynamic cross-linking on biomineralization in vitro remains unclear. Dynamic-cross-linked mineralized collagen under different cross-linking processes, according to the process of cross-linking and mineralization of natural bone, was prepared in this study.
