Objective: To evaluate the effect of transdermal agent of PZQ on infection of Schistosoma japonicum in different developmental stages and the early period of re-infection.
Methods: All Kunming mice in the experiment groups were infected with 40 +/- 2 Schistosoma japonicum cercariae. The mice which were infected once and re-infected were treated by abdominal transdermal agent of praziquantel. Control groups were set for all of the experiment groups. All of the mice were dissected 42 d after the infection, and the worm reduction rate, egg reduction rate and miracidium hatching reduction rate were calculated. In addition, the dynamic changes of IgG antibody in sera of the mice were detected by ELISA in different time of primary infection and re-infection.
Results: The worm reduction rates of 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 d after the infection were 48.9%, 0%, 28.8%, 84.3% and 70.2%, respectively, and those of 1 d and 14 d after re-infection were 85.6% and 90.8%, respectively. After the primary infection, the specific IgG level gradually increased with the prolongation of time, and the ratio of P/N of specific anti-ESA of IgG was significantly raised after re-infection.
Conclusion: The transdermal agent of praziquantel is effective to Schistosoma japonicum at developmental stages, and the effect to schistosomula at early period of re-infection is more significant.

Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease and the second most common parasitic disease after malaria. While praziquantel remains the primary treatment, concerns about drug resistance highlight the urgent need for new drugs and effective vaccines to achieve sustainable control. Previous proteomic studies from our group revealed that the expression of glycosyltransferase and nicastrin as proteins was higher in single-sex males than mated males, suggesting their critical roles in parasite reproduction and their potential as vaccine candidates.

Schistosomiasis, caused by , continues to pose a major public health threat in East Asia, with an estimated 71 million people at risk of infection. Domestic animals, especially buffaloes and goats, serve as important reservoir hosts, facilitating the transmission of the parasite to humans. While praziquantel (PZQ) is the first-line treatment for schistosomiasis due to its broad-spectrum efficacy against adult schistosomes, its prophylactic potential is less explored.

Objective: To establish an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted platform for detection of parasite eggs, and to evaluate its detection efficiency and accuracy, so as to provide technical supports for elimination of parasitic diseases.
Methods: A total of 1 003 slides of , horkworm, , , , , , and eggs were collected, and converted into digital images with an automatated scanning microscope to create a dataset. Based on the Object Detection platform on the Baidu Easy DL model, an AI-assisted platform for detection of parasite eggs was created through procedures of uploading, labeling, training, evaluation and optimization.

Objectives: To evaluate the protective effect of cystatin (r-Cystatin) in a mouse mode of "two-hit" sepsis.
Methods: Sixty male C57BL/6 mice randomized equally into sham-operated group, protein group, "two-hit" modeling group, and protein intervention group. In the former two groups, the mice received an intraperitoneal injection of 100 μL PBS followed by exposure of the cecum and then by intraperitoneal injection of 100 μL PBS or 25 μg r-Cystatin 30 min later; In the latter two groups, 100 μL PBS containing LPS (5 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally 24 h before cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), and 100 μL PBS or 25 μg r-Cystatin were injected 30 min after CLP.

Schistosomiasis, caused by the infection with Schistosoma japonicum, remains a significant public health concern in China. As the sole intermediate host of S. japonicum, the breeding and spread of Oncomelania hupensis contribute significantly to the potential risk of disease occurrence and transmission.
