We present a class of continuous-time random walks (CTRWs), in which random jumps are separated by random waiting times. The novel feature of these CTRWs is that the jumps are clustered. This introduces a coupled effect, with longer waiting times separating larger jump clusters. We show that the CTRW scaling limits are time-changed processes. Their densities solve two different fractional diffusion equations, depending on whether the waiting time is coupled to the preceding jump, or the following one. These fractional diffusion equations can be used to model all types of experimentally observed two power-law relaxation patterns. The parameters of the scaling limit process determine the power-law exponents and loss peak frequencies.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of three-dimensional arterial spin labeling (ASL) and six different diffusion MRI models to differentiate between solid benign and malignant renal tumors.
  • The research analyzed data from 89 patients with renal tumors, looking at various parameters from ASL and six diffusion models, with results indicating that the stretched exponential model (SEM) performed best for distinguishing clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) from other types.
  • Ultimately, combining ASL with various diffusion models significantly enhances diagnostic accuracy, particularly in identifying ccRCC.

Many integrable stochastic particle systems in one space dimension (such as TASEP-Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process-and its -deformation, the -TASEP) remain integrable if we equip each particle with its own speed parameter. In this work, we present intertwining relations between Markov transition operators of particle systems which differ by a permutation of the speed parameters. These relations generalize our previous works (Petrov and Saenz in Probab Theory Relat Fields 182:481-530, 2022), (Petrov in SIGMA 17(021):34, 2021), but here we employ a novel approach based on the Yang-Baxter equation for the higher spin stochastic six vertex model.

Structural and hydrodynamic controls on fluid travel time distributions across fracture networks.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

Fractory, Geosciences UMR 6118, Univ Rennes, CNRS, Rennes 35042, France.

Fracture networks are preferential flow paths playing a critical role in a wide range of environmental and industrial problems. Their complex multiscale structure leads to broad distributions of fluid travel times, affecting many biogeochemical processes. Yet, the relationship between the fracture network structures, their hydrodynamic properties, and the resulting anomalous transport dynamics remains unclear.

Background: The prognosis for patients with cervical cancer (CC) is strongly correlated with the Ki-67 proliferation index (PI). However, the Ki-67 PI obtained through biopsy has certain limitations. The non-Gaussian distribution diffusion model of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may play an important role in characterizing tissue heterogeneity.

The continuous time random walk model has been widely applied in various fields, including physics, biology, chemistry, finance, social phenomena, etc. In this work, we present an algorithm that utilizes a subordinate formula to generate data of the continuous time random walk in the long time limit. The algorithm has been validated using commonly employed observables, such as typical fluctuations of the positional distribution, rare fluctuations, the mean and the variance of the position, and breakthrough curves with time-dependent bias, demonstrating a perfect match.
