Anoectochilus formosanus is a therapeutic orchid appreciated as a traditional Chinese medicine in Asia. The extracts of A. formosanus have been reported to possess hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor activates. A novel protein was isolated from A. formosanus, and its immunomodulatory effect on murine peritoneal macrophage was investigated. Macrophages obtained from ascites of thioglycollate-induced BALB/c were co-cultured with IPAF (0-20 μg/ml) for 24 h and then harvested for flow cytometry analysis. The cytokine/chemokine production was measured by real time PCR and ELISA. The interaction between IPAF and toll like receptors (TLRs) was investigated by TLR gene knockout (KO) mice and fluorescence labeled IPAF. The activation of NF-κB was assessed by EMSA. IPAF stimulated the TNF-α and IL-1β production, upregulated the CD86 and MHC II expression, and enhanced the phagocytic activity of macrophages. IPAF induced gene expression of IL-12 and Th1-assosiated cytokines/chemokines. The stimulating effect of IPAF was impaired, and the IPAF-macrophage interaction was reduced in TLR4(-/-) C57BL/10ScNJ mice. In addition, IPAF stimulated expressions of TLR signal-related genes and the activation of NF-κB. IPAF could induce classical activated macrophage differentiation via TLR4-dependent NF-κB activation and had potential of IPAF to modulate the Th1 response. These findings provided valuable information regarding the immune modulatory mechanism of A. formosanus, and indicated the possibility of IPAF as a potential peptide drug.

Efficient removal of TcO from radioactive effluents while recovering drinking water remains a challenge. Herein, an excellent ReO (a nonradioactive surrogate of TcO ) scavenger is presented through covalently bonding imidazolium poly(ionic liquids) polymers with an ionic porous aromatic framework (iPAF), namely iPAF-P67, following an adsorption-site density-addition strategy. It shows rapid sorption kinetics, high uptake capacity, and exceptional selectivity toward ReO .

: Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs) have been found in interstitial lung disease (ILD) in recent years, although its impact on ILD prognosis is less known. To date, ANCAs are not included in the interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF) definition criteria. Therefore, ANCA-ILD, in the absence of known ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), could be underdiagnosed.

Background: To address knowledge gaps, this study aimed to investigate the involvement of inflammasomes in the etiology of azoospermia. This study focused on the gene expression of key inflammasome components, including , and .

Methods: We analyzed gene expression in blood and testicular tissue from patients with obstructive azoospermia (OA) and non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA).

Purpose: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) damages the lungs and can be caused by environmental exposures and collagen-vascular diseases. The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is investigated to diagnose and manage ILDs in different etiological diseases. The study aims to examine the usefulness of SII in diagnosing specific ILDs like Sjogren's syndrome (SjS)-ILD, interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

There are cases of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) that do not meet the diagnostic criteria for connective tissue disease but have clinical features suggestive of autoimmune process. Interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF) was recently proposed as a research concept for these patients. Although several prospective studies on IPAF have been conducted, its clinical significance in cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) remains unclear.
