Complex, sophisticated surface patterns on micrometer and nanometer scales are obtained when solvent evaporates from solutions containing nonvolatile solutes dropped on a solid substrate. Such evaporation-driven pattern formation has been utilized as a fabrication process of highly ordered patterns in thin films. Here, we suggested the spontaneous pattern formation induced by Bénard-Marangoni convection triggered by solvent evaporation as a novel patterning process of sol-gel-derived organic-inorganic hybrid films. Microcraters of 1.0-1.5 μm in height and of 100-200 μm in width were spontaneously formed on the surface of silica-poly(vinylpyrrolidone) hybrid films prepared via temperature-controlled dip-coating process, where the surface patterns were linearly arranged parallel to the substrate withdrawal direction. Such highly ordered micropatterns were achieved by Bénard-Marangoni convection activated at high temperatures and the unidirectional flow of the coating solution on the substrate during dip-coating.

Soft actuators are limited by single-mode driving technology, which poses challenges in dealing with complex and multidimensional movements. In this study, a multiresponsive soft actuator was fabricated by integrating a microwrinkling structure into an MXene-based film, enabling programmable motions. To achieve this, we introduced -hexane into the film preparation process and utilized its rapid volatilization to accelerate the shrinkage difference between the film and the substrate.

One of the biggest challenges in food packaging is the creation of sustainable and eco-friendly packaging materials to shield foods from ultraviolet (UV) photochemical damage and to preserve the distinctive physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of foods throughout the supply chain. Accordingly, this study focuses on enhancing the UV shielding properties and biological activity of carboxylmethyl cellulose sodium (CMC) through modifications using zinc oxide (ZnO), copper oxide (CuO), and graphene oxide (GO) using the solution casting technique. The hybrid nanocomposites were characterized by fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and x-ray diffraction (XRD).

Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) are widely used in modern electronics because they have both high transmittance and good conductivity, which is beneficial for many applications such as light-emitting diodes. A novel phthalocyanine-based hybrid nanofilm is for the first time successfully applied as an oxidative platform for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensing to fine-resolve Raman-inactive compounds. The hybrid is formed by self-assembly of zinc(II) 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-Octa[(3',5'-dicarboxy)-phenoxy]phthalocyaninate (ZnPc*) with the solid-supported monolayer of graphene oxide (GO) mediated by zinc acetate metal cluster. Atomic force microscopy, UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies confirm that this simple coordination motive in combination with molecular structure of ZnPc* prevents contact quenching of the light-excited triplet state through aromatic stacking with GO particles.
