Impact of a continence training program on patient safety and quality.

Rehabil Nurs

Community Health Network, Indianapolis, IN, USA.

Published: August 2012

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of an evidence-based training program on patient outcomes of continence, falls, and discharge disposition in the rehab population.

Methods: Criteria for inclusion required new onset of two or more episodes of urinary incontinence. Sixty-six subjects were enrolled with 33 subjects receiving evidence-based interventions.

Results: The intervention group showed improvement in continence (p = .020), with no difference between groups on discharge disposition (p = .744). Results showed an unexpected higher occurrence of falls in the treatment group (p = .000). DISCUSSION AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This study supports existing literature indicating that continence is not an independent predictor of nursing home admission and offers new evidence that use of an evidence-based intervention bundle can significantly improve patient continence including those patients with mild to moderate cognitive impairment.

Face age modulates face ensemble coding.

Vision Res

Department of Psychology, College of Education, Hunan Agricultural University.

Research has demonstrated that humans possess the remarkable ability to swiftly extract ensemble statistics, specifically the average identity, from sets of stimuli, such as facial crowds. This phenomenon is known as ensemble perception. Although previous studies have investigated how physiognomic features like gender and race influence face ensemble perception, the impact of face age on face ensemble coding performance remains a relatively unexplored area.

Electronic address:

Developing translational nanoradiosensitizers with multiple activities in sensitizing tumor cells and re-shaping tumor immunosuppressive microenvironments are urgently desired for addressing the poor therapeutic efficacy of radiotherapy in clinic. Inspired by the anaerobic and immunoagonist properties of the probiotic (bifidobacterium longum, BL), herein, a biomimetic Selenium nanoradiosensitizer in situ-formed on the surface of the probiotic (BL@SeNPs) is developed in a facile method to potentiate radiotherapy. BL@SeNPs selectively target to hypoxia regions of tumors and then anchor on the surface of tumor cells to inhibit its proliferation.

Objective: To explore the network structure of common geriatric syndromes and conditions in physically disabled older adults.

Methods: We chose fourteen common geriatric syndromes and conditions from the dataset and estimated networks with the partial correlation network method. We tested the stability and accuracy of the network using the package "bootnet" in R software.

Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, emerged as a global health crisis in 2019, resulting in widespread morbidity and mortality. A persistent challenge during the pandemic has been the accuracy of reported epidemic data, particularly in underdeveloped regions with limited access to COVID-19 test kits and healthcare infrastructure. In the post-COVID era, this issue remains crucial.
