The study of the back muscles bioelectric activity in 216 children in the age between 10-15 years showed that the total paravertebral muscles bioelectrical activity on the convex side of the proximal curve and on the concave side of its distal part is higher compared with that on the opposite side. Analysis of H-reflex and M-responses in 302 patients in the age between 10-15 years created a normative database. This allows, in comparison with the total individual electrophysiological parameters, to determine patient's progression risk.

Background/aims: The incidence of steatotic liver disease (SLD) is increasing across all age groups as the incidence of obesity increases worldwide. The existing noninvasive prediction models for SLD require laboratory tests or imaging and perform poorly in the early diagnosis of infrequently screened populations such as young adults and individuals with healthcare disparities. We developed a machine learning-based point-of-care prediction model for SLD that is readily available to the broader population with the aim of facilitating early detection and timely intervention and ultimately reducing the burden of SLD.

Background/aim: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is often complicated by sarcopenia, a condition of reduced muscle mass and function that adversely affects quality of life, lung function, and exacerbation rates. Ultrasonography could be an effective tool for detecting sarcopenia, notably by assessing diaphragmatic function, which may indicate muscle health in COPD patients. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of diaphragmatic ultrasound in detecting sarcopenia among COPD patients.

Purpose: A relationship between decreased plantar cutaneous sensation and impaired balance function has been reported in patients with peripheral neuropathy and diabetes. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relationship between plantar sensation and postural balance, as well as the association between plantar sensation and sarcopenia-related motor function in community-dwelling older adults.
Methods: The participants included 1659 community-dwelling older adults with a mean age of 74 ± 5 years, of which 43% were male patients.

This study aimed to evaluate the body composition of the Khisêdjê, an Indigenous people residing in the Xingu Indigenous Territory, and compare it to the results obtained by anthropometry. One hundred seventy-nine individuals aged above 20 of both genders were included. The nutritional status was classified per the cutoff proposed by the WHO (1995).

Background/objective: Obesity is linked to increased risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Bariatric surgery (BS) aids in weight management, significantly altering body composition. This study evaluates the predictive value of five complete blood count (CBC)-derived indices [C-reactive-protein-albumin-lymphocyte (CALLY), glucose-to-lymphocyte ratio (GLR), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, platelet (HALP), and controlling nutritional status (COUNT)] on body composition changes post-BS.
