The healing of sluggishly postburn wounds after local electrostimulation (ES) with the use of current-conducting carbon tissue as the electrode was studied in 12 patients. Analysis of the clinical data which were corroborated by the results of morphological and biochemical studies confirmed the marked stimulating effect of local ES which facilitates successful taking of dermal autografts and healing of burn wounds. The obtained data are evidence that the method of ES through a current-conducting carbon tissue is promising in the complex of measures for local treatment of burn wounds.

The structural and electro-thermophysical characteristics of organosilicon elastomers modified with multilayer carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) synthesized on Co-Mo/AlO-MgO and metallic (Cu or Ni) microparticles have been studied. The structures were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The main focus of this study was the influence of metallic dispersed fillers on the resistance of a modified elastomer with Cu and Ni to the degradation of electrophysical parameters under the action of applied electrical voltage.

We report a facile two-step methodology; electrospinning followed by high temperature treatment, to produce manganese oxide-based nanofibers with well-controlled nanoscale architectures. Electrospinning of manganese acetate-based solution (MnOx precursor) has been utilized to fabricate meso-porous manganese oxide nanofibers. These fibers have diameters of about 200-300 nm and fiber mats have been shown to have specific surface area of over 12 m2/g.

The present study demonstrates that novel nanocomposites consisting of blends of polylactic acid and carbon nanotubes effectively can be used to expose cells to electrical stimulation. When osteoblasts cultured on the surfaces of these nanocomposites were exposed to electric stimulation (10 microA at 10 Hz) for 6 h/day for various periods of time, there was a 46% increase in cell proliferation after 2 days, a 307% increase in the concentration of extracellular calcium after 21 consecutive days, and upregulation of mRNA expression for collagen type-I after both 1 and 21 consecutive days. These results provide evidence that electrical stimulation delivered through novel, current-conducting polymer/nanophase composites promotes osteoblast functions that are responsible for the chemical composition of the organic and inorganic phases of bone.
