Biodegradable and non-biodegradable microcapsules were prepared via the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique consisting of the polyelectrolyte pairs of dextran sulphate/poly-L-arginine and poly(styrene sulfonate)/poly(allylamine hydrochloride), respectively, in an attempt to encapsulate plasmid DNA (pDNA) for efficient transfection into NIH 3T3 cells. Results indicated the retention of bioactivity in the encased pDNA, as well as a correlation between the level of in vitro gene expression and biodegradability properties of polyelectrolyte. Furthermore, the incorporation of iron oxide nanoparticles within the polyelectrolyte layers significantly improved the in vitro transfection efficiency of the microcapsules. As a novel pDNA delivery system, the reported biodegradable microcapsules provide useful insight into plasmid-based vaccination and where there is a prerequisite to deliver genes into cells capable of phagocytosis.

Objective To investigate the effect of serum containing Xinfeng capsule (XFC) on the angiogenesis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) induced by rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLS) and its mechanism of action. Methods An in vitro co-culture model of RA-FLS and HUVEC was established. Serum containing XFC was prepared by oral gavage of SD rats.

The microencapsulation of Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus GG in a matrix of sodium alginate, xanthan gum, gum arabic and chitosan hydrochloride is a promising strategy for protecting this probiotic during passage through the gastrointestinal tract. This study evaluated the influence on the viability of Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus GG encapsulated with these polymers by external ionic gelation with vibratory extrusion and the microcapsules that showed the best results of capsulation efficiency, viability, size and morphology were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis (TGA) and exposure to environmental stress conditions and gastrointestinal simulation. The result revealed encapsulation efficiency values above 95 % for all formulations and survival rate higher than 6 log CFU/mL for most analyzed groups.

Background: Gut dysbiosis, chronic diseases, and microbial recurrent infections concerns have driven the researchers to explore phytochemicals from medicinal and food homologous plants to modulate gut microbiota, mitigate diseases, and inhibit pathogens. Gingerols have attracted attention as therapeutic agents due to their diverse biological activities like gut microbiome regulation, gastro-protective, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-oxidative effects.
Purpose: This review aimed to summarize the gingerols health-promoting potential, specifically focusing on the regulation of gut microbiome, attenuation of disease symptoms, mechanisms of action, and signaling pathways involved.
