A reflective thermochromic display fabricated by a very simple method using three kinds of thermochromic pigments is produced and its thermo-optical characteristics are investigated. The display exhibits maximum red, green, and blue reflectances of 38%, 30%, and 35%, respectively. The reflective display cell shows continuous gray color with changing temperature, which is crucial for multicolor displays. It also shows an excellent viewing angle above 80° without any of the additional optical components that are required in liquid crystal displays. We expect that this display technology will be used for outdoor billboard information display applications.

A thermochromic pigment, derived from reaction of ethylenediamine and rhodamine B known as MA-RB, has been successfully developed. This pigment showcases temperature-controlled visible color-transformation properties in both solid and solution states. The thermochromic pigment MA-RB exhibits a notable color change from light pink to rose red, triggered by thermal excitation.

Ultraviolet (UV) exposure overdose can cause health issues such as skin burns or other skin damage. In this work, a UV and temperature sensor smartwatch is developed, utilizing a multimaterial 3D printing approach via a vat photopolymerization-digital light processing technique. Photochromic (PC) pigments with different UV sensitivities, UVA (315-400 nm) and UVB (315-280 nm), were utilized to cover a wider range of UV exposure and were mixed in transparent resin, whereas the smartwatch was printed with controlled thickness gradients.
