In the title compound, C(29)H(19)F(2)NO(2), the central benzene ring forms a dihedral angle of 56.92 (12)° with the cyano-benzene ring and dihedral angles of 40.91 (12) and 44.76 (12)° with the two fluoro-benzene rings. In the crystal, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯F hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into sheets lying parallel to the ab plane. The crystal packing also features C-H⋯π inter-actions involving the central benzene ring.

Gold(I)-catalyzed intramolecular hydroarylation of dialkynyl(biaryl)phosphine oxides provided versatile benzo-fused phosphepine oxides. O-exo adducts were obtained as the major product, and O-endo adducts were the minor product. O-exo and O-endo indicate the position of an oxygen atom with respect to the central phosphepine framework.

Synthesis of pillar-layered metal-organic frameworks with variable backbones through sequence control.

The properties and functions of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be tailored by tuning their structure, including their shape, porosity and topology. However, the design and synthesis of complex structures in a predictable manner remains challenging. Here we report the preparation of a series of isomeric pillar-layered MOFs, and we show that their three-dimensional topology can be controlled by altering the layer stacking.

Protolysis of AlMe or AlEt with 2-diisopropylphosphinopyrrole () resulted in alane/bis(phosphine) pincer ligands containing two flanking phosphines and a central Al-Me (), Al-Et () unit. Reactions of with [(COD)MI] (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene; M = Rh or Ir) in the presence of pyridine produced pincer complexes ( and ) with M supported by the PAlP tridentate ligand, and pyridine, methyl, and iodide as monodentate ligands for Al or M. The analogous reaction of with [(COD)MI] and pyridine resulted in the formation of the analogous compounds and with hydride in place of methyl.

Burning and flaring of oil and gas following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil spill generated high airborne concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM). Neurological effects of PM have been previously reported, but this relationship has received limited attention in the context of oil spills. We evaluated associations between burning-related PM and prevalence of self-reported neurological symptoms during, and 1-3 years after, the DWH disaster cleanup.

The chemical reactivity between benzene and the "naked" acyclic carbene-like (G13X) species, having two bulky N-heterocyclic boryloxy ligands at the Group 13 center, was theoretically assessed using density functional theory computations. Our theoretical studies show that (BX) preferentially undergoes C-H bond insertion with benzene, both kinetically and thermodynamically, whereas the (AlX) analogue favors a reversible [4 + 1] cycloaddition. Conversely, the heavier carbene analogues ((GaX), (InX), and (TlX)) are not expected to engage in a reaction with benzene.
