Article Abstract

In the title complex, [Cu(C(16)H(15)NO(3))(C(10)H(8)N(2))]·3H(2)O, the Cu(II) atom is five coordinated by O,N,O'-donor atoms of the Schiff base ligand and by two N atoms of the 2,2'-bipyridine ligand in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into a two-dimensional network parallel to (011) by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

In this work, we report a distorted square pyramidal mononuclear copper(II) complex [Cu(L)(NCS)] (1) which was obtained by the reaction of the aqueous solution of ammonium thiocyanate to a methanolic solution of copper nitrate trihydrate and corresponding Schiff-base ligands. Schiff bases, HL (CHNO) act as a tetradentate Schiff base, derived from 1:1 condensation of o-hydroxyacetophenone and diethylenetriamine. The synthesized complex has been successfully characterized based on elemental analysis and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy.

Chloro(glycinato-N,O)(1,10-phenanthroline-N,N')‑copper(II) trihydrate complex was synthesized through the slow evaporation method. The crystal's structural, thermal, magnetic, and vibrational properties were obtained by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), thermal analyses, magnetization, Raman, and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. XRPD results showed that the crystalline complex belongs to a monoclinic system (P2/n).

Stabilization of an elusive tautomer by metal coordination.

The solid-state isolation of the different tautomers of a chemical compound can be a challenging problem. In many cases, tautomers with an energy very close to the most stable one cannot be isolated (elusive tautomers). In this article, with reference to the 4-methyl-7-(pyrazin-2-yl)-2H-[1,2,4]triazolo[3,2-c][1,2,4]triazole ligand, for which the elusive 3H-tautomer has an energy only 1.

Understanding metal-ligand interactions in coordination polymers using Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Acta Crystallogr C Struct Chem

June 2019

Department of Chemistry, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Avenida Antonio Carlos, 6627, Pampulha, Belo Horizonte - MG, CEP 31270-901, Brazil.

Properties related to the size and shape of Hirshfeld surfaces provide insight into the nature and strength of interactions among the building blocks of molecular crystals. In this work, we demonstrate that functions derived from the curvatures of the surface at a point, namely, shape index (S) and curvedness (C), as well as the distances from the surface to the nearest external (d) and internal (d) nuclei, can be used to help understand metal-ligand interactions in coordination polymers. The crystal structure of catena-poly[[[(1,10-phenanthroline-κN,N')copper(II)]-μ-4-nitrophthalato-κO:O] trihydrate], {[Cu(CHNO)(CHN)]·3HO}, described here for the first time, was used as a prototypical system for our analysis.

A series of mononuclear complexes of divalent nickel and zinc with N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-(propan-2-ylidene)hydrazine carbothioamide (H2Lmethoxy) as well as with N-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-(propan-2-ylidene)hydrazine carbothioamide (H2Lnitro) have been structurally characterised. Among these two ligands, H2Lnitro formed an analogous copper(ii) complex to that of nickel and zinc, whereas H2Lmethoxy undergoes a catalytic cyclisation reaction in the presence of copper(ii) nitrate trihydrate. Control experiments based on ESR have revealed that copper(ii) is reduced to copper(i) and reverts back to copper(ii) as the cyclisation reaction proceeds, generating a catalytic reaction.
