In the asymmetric unit of the title polymeric compound, [Co(C(8)H(4)O(4))(C(5)H(5)N)(2)](n), there are two crystallographically independent Co(II) atoms, each of which is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry by four O atoms from benzene-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two N atoms from pyridine ligands. The benzene-dicarboxyl-ate dianions bridge the Co(II) atoms into a tape running along the b axis. C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed in the tape and between the tapes.

Coordination-driven metallo-supramolecular polymers hold significant potential as highly efficient catalysts for photocatalytic CO reduction, owing to the covalent integration of the light harvesting unit, catalytic center and intrinsic hierarchical nanostructures. In this study, we present the synthesis, characterization, and gelation behaviour of a novel low molecular weight gelator (LMWG) integrating a benzo[1,2-:4,5-']dithiophene core with terpyridine (TPY) units alkyl amide chains (TPY-BDT). The two TPY ends of the TPY-BDT unit efficiently chelate with metal ions, enabling the formation of a metallo-supramolecular polymer that brings together the catalytic center and a photosensitizer in close proximity, maximizing catalytic efficiency for CO reduction.

Fusarium solani biomass plays a significant role in water pollution remediation due to its ability to sequester heavy metals, particularly cobalt (Co(II)) and cadmium (Cd(II)), which pose severe environmental and health risks. This study aimed to identify fungi from sewage-contaminated sites and evaluate their efficiency in absorbing and reducing Co(II) and Cd(II) ions. The biosorption potential of irradiated Fusarium solani biomass for removing Co(II) and Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated.

Reaction of Co(NCS) with 4-methyl-pyridine in water leads to the formation of single crystals of the title compound, [Co(NCS)(CHN)] . The asymmetric unit consists of two crystallographically independent thio-cyanate anions and two crystallographically independent 4-methyl-pyridine coligands in general positions, as well as of two different Co cations, of which one is located on a twofold rotational axis, whereas the second occupies a center of inversion. The methyl H atoms in both 4-methyl-pyridine ligands are disordered and were refined using a split model.

Two artificial imidazole-derived nucleobases, Im (3H-imidazo[4,5-f]quinolin-5-ol) and Im (imidazole-4-carboxylate), were introduced into short DNA duplexes to systematically investigate their thermal stability upon metal ion coordination. Metal-mediated base pairs are formed with the 3d metal ions Co, Ni and Zn, as well as with the lanthanoid ions Eu and Sm, which induce a thermal stabilization of up to 8 °C upon binding. The latter are the first lanthanoid-mediated base pairs involving only four donor atoms that result in a significant duplex stabilization.
