AI Article Synopsis

  • Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors are uncommon, making up a tiny fraction of lung tumors, and are typically benign but can show malignant traits.
  • The primary treatment for these tumors is total surgical removal whenever they are detected.
  • A case report describes a significant pulmonary myofibroblastic tumor that necessitated a major surgical procedure to ensure complete removal.

Article Abstract

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours are rare masses that account for a very small percentage of primary lung neoplasms. They are generally considered as benign tumours but can exhibit malignant characteristics. When identified, the mainstay of their treatment is complete surgical resection. We present a case report of a large pulmonary myofibroblastic tumour that required extensive resection to achieve complete clearance.

Division of Public Health, Infectious Diseases, and Occupational Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA.

Background: Multiple outpatient therapies have been developed for COVID-19 in high-risk individuals, but solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients were not well represented in controlled clinical trials. To date, few comparative studies have evaluated outcomes between outpatient therapies in this population.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study using de-identified administrative claims data from OptumLabs Data Warehouse.

Unlabelled: Persistent viral infections can be an important medical problem, with persistently infected (PI) cells extending viral shedding, maintaining inflammation, and providing potential sources for new viral variants. Given that PI cells can acquire resistance to some innate immune pathways, we tested the hypothesis that complement (C')-mediated lysis of parainfluenza virus 5 (PIV5)-infected cells would differ between acute-infected and PI cells. Biochemical and real-time cell viability assays showed effective C'-mediated lysis of A549 lung cells acutely infected with PIV5, through pathways that depended on C3 and C5, but largely independent of C6.

We would like to present a 49-year-old female patient who was presented with a vulva lesion and palpable inguinal lymph nodes who were diagnosed with disseminated multiorgan involvement of high grade diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography computerized tomography imaging showed multiple cervical, axillary, and abdominal lymph nodes, pulmonary nodules as well as gross hypermetabolic vulvar lesion.
