The frequency dependence of the spur-free dynamic range (SFDR) in a modulator based on an injection-locked laser is analyzed. It is shown that as the modulation frequency approaches half of the locking range, the SFDR of the modulator approaches that of a standard Mach-Zehnder configuration. At low frequencies, the SFDR degrades by 2 dB for every octave of frequency increase.

To address the issue of suboptimal spectral purity in Direct Digital Frequency Synthesis (DDFS) within resource-constrained environments, this paper proposes an optimized DDFS technique based on cubic Hermite interpolation. Initially, a DDFS hardware architecture is implemented on a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA); subsequently, essential interpolation parameters are extracted by combining the derivative relations of sine and cosine functions with a dual-port Read-Only Memory (ROM) structure using the cubic Hermite interpolation method to reconstruct high-fidelity target waveforms. This approach effectively mitigates spurious issues caused by amplitude quantization during the DDFS digitalization process while reducing data node storage units.

In this paper, a broadband photoelectric fusion transceiver-multiplexed system is proposed to realize a frequency converter. The system achieves a high spurious suppression ratio through two frequency conversions that utilize the advantages of microwave and photonics technology simultaneously to reduce the complexity of the system and improve the effective spectrum utilization. In addition, the core components, such as the Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM), are multiplexed in the up and down frequency conversion link.

This work presents a bi-directional brain-computer interface (BD-BCI) including a high-dynamic-range (HDR) two-step time-domain neural acquisition (TTNA) system and a high-voltage (HV) multipolar neural stimulation system incorporating dual-mode time-based charge balancing (DTCB) technique. The proposed TTNA includes four independent recording modules that can sense microvolt neural signals while tolerating large stimulation artifacts. In addition, it exhibits an integrated input-referred noise of 2.

In this paper, we propose a serial electro-optical (EO)-modulation-based microwave photonic in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) mixer and investigate its performance for wideband frequency downconversion. The proposed I/Q mixer uses two EO modulators and a programmable optical processor in a serially cascaded structure, which ensures good phase stability and flexibility to achieve high-performance broadband frequency downconversion. A proof-of-concept experiment is carried out in which the frequency downconversion of the RF signals in the range from 10 to 40 GHz is demonstrated with an average image rejection ratio of 38.

Photonic digital-to-analog converters (PDACs) with segmented design can achieve better performance than conventional binary PDACs in terms of effective number of bits (ENOB) and spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR). However, segmented PDACs generally require an increased amount of laser sources. Here, a structure of bipolar segmented PDAC based on laser wavelength multiplexing and balanced detection is proposed.
