Polyploid Giant Cancer Cells (PGCCs) have been recognized as tumor cells that are resistant to anticancer therapies. However, it remains unclear whether their presence in the bloodstream can be consistently detected and utilized as a clinical marker to guide therapeutic anticancer regimens. To address these questions, we conducted a retrospective study involving 228 patients diagnosed with six different types of carcinomas (colon, gastric, NSCLC, breast, anal canal, kidney), with the majority of them (70%) being non-metastatic.

Timing and location dictate monocyte fate and their transition to tumor-associated macrophages.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are a heterogeneous population of cells whose phenotypes and functions are shaped by factors that are incompletely understood. Herein, we asked when and where TAMs arise from blood monocytes and how they evolve during tumor development. We initiated pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) in inducible monocyte fate-mapping mice and combined single-cell transcriptomics and high-dimensional flow cytometry to profile the monocyte-to-TAM transition.

Article Synopsis
  • The incidence of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) has risen over the past 20 years, with asymptomatic carriers potentially serving as important reservoirs in healthcare settings.* -
  • A study conducted from September 2019 to January 2020 in 11 hospitals in Paris included 2,389 patients over 3 years old, revealing a 3.2% asymptomatic carriage rate of toxigenic strains of CDI.* -
  • Key factors associated with increased asymptomatic carriage were co-carriage of multidrug-resistant organisms and previous CDI history, while consuming raw milk products appeared to lower the risk.*
