Multiple crosslinked, self-healing, and shape-adaptable hydrogel laden with pain-relieving chitosan@borneol nanoparticles for infected burn wound healing.

Theranostics

January 2025

Next-generation wound dressings with multiple biological functions hold promise for addressing the complications and pain associated with burn wounds. A hydrogel wound dressing loaded with a pain-relieving drug was developed for treating infected burn wounds. Polyvinyl alcohol chemically grafted with gallic acid (PVA-GA), sodium alginate chemically grafted with 3-aminobenzeneboronic acid (SA-PBA), Zn, and chitosan-coated borneol nanoparticles with anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving activities were combined to afford a nanoparticle-loaded hydrogel with a PVA-GA/Zn/SA-PBA network crosslinked via multiple physicochemical interactions.

Motion-less depth-selective optogenetic probe using tapered fiber and an electrically tuneable liquid crystal steering element.

Biomed Opt Express

January 2025

Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers, Department of Physics, Engineering Physics and Optics, Université Laval, 2375 Rue de la Terrasse, Québec, Québec G1V 0A6, Canada.

A miniature electrically tuneable liquid crystal component is used to steer light from -1° to +1° and then to inject into a simple tapered fiber. This allows the generation of various propagation modes, their leakage, and selective illumination of the surrounding medium at different depth levels without using mechanical movements nor deformation. The performance of the device is characterized in a reference fluorescence medium (Rhodamine 6G) as well as in a mouse brain (medullary reticular formation and mesencephalic locomotor regions) during in-vivo experiments as a proof of concept.

Masked cryptic kidney injury (MCKI), an early stage of acute kidney injury (AKI), is challenging to detect and diagnose, especially in the modern context where toxic substances, such as surfactants, are increasingly misused. Consequently, there is an urgent need for methods for the visual diagnosis of MCKI. In this study, we synthesized environmentally friendly spirulina-derived carbon dots (SpiCDs) using spirulina as a biobased raw material through a simple hydrothermal process.

Dynamic transverse mode instability (TMI) has become one of the primary limitations for power scaling of high-power fiber lasers. Experimental evidence has shown that static mode degradation can suppress the dynamic TMI effect. This study reveals the physical mechanisms behind the mitigation of dynamic TMI in two-mode fiber lasers through static mode degradation.

Addressing the issues of inadequate information exchange among subsequences in the operational time series of water injection pumps, leading to low accuracy and high false alarm rates in anomaly detection, this paper proposes a multidimensional time series anomaly detection method for water injection pump operations, leveraging Long Short-Term Memory Autoencoder augmented with Attention Mechanism (LSTMA-AE) and mechanistic constraints. The LSTMA-AE framework encompasses three primary modules: a Time Feature Extraction Module (Encoder), an Attention Layer, and a Data Reconstruction Module (Decoder). The Encoder captures temporal dependencies and features within the input sequences, mapping the input data into a higher-dimensional space.
