The dipolar compound Phthalazinium-dibenzoylmethylid (PDBM) was used as spectrally active molecule in order to analyze the molecular interactions in ternary solutions containing at least one protic solvent. In PDBM+protic solvent (1)+aprotic solvent (2) ternary solutions, PDBM can be involved both in universal and specific interactions reflected in solvatochromic effects. The protic solvent (or the solvent with the higher electric permittivity) was considered as being active from the interactions point of view. The content of the first solvation sphere of the studied ylid has been established on the basis of the statistical cell model of ternary solutions. The active solvent molecules are dominant in the first solvation sphere of the PDBM molecules. The difference between the interaction energies in the PDBM-active solvent (1) and PDBM-inactive solvent (2) molecular pairs has been determined for three binary solvents water+ethanol (W+E), propionic acid+chloroform (PA+C) and octanol+1,2 dichloroethane (O+DCE). The hydrogen bond formation energy of the PDBM-protic solvent complex has been estimated in the binary solvents PA+C and O+DCE containing one protic (PA and O, respectively) and one aprotic solvent with close electro-optical parameters refractive index and electric permittivity of the components.

The ongoing challenge of water pollution necessitates innovative approaches to remove organic contaminants from wastewater. In this work, new two-dimensional S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts BiO/CdS and MoS/BiO/CdS that are intended for the effective photocatalytic destruction of 4-nitrophenol, a dangerous organic pollutant, are synthesized and characterized. Utilizing a solvothermal method, successfully generated these ternary nanocomposites, which were characterized through various techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high resolution transmission electronmicroscopy (HRTEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Telle (BET) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS).

In this paper, a method of ultrasound-assisted low-pressure closed acid digestion followed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) analysis was proposed for trace element quantification in rock samples. By using 1.5 mL of a binary acid mixture of HNO-HF with a ratio of 2:1, rock powder samples of 50 mg were completely decomposed in 12 h at 140 °C after 4 h of ultrasonic treatment with or without pressure relief procedure.

Controllable macromolecular architecture formation via polysaccharide integrated ternary copolymerization was explored in the design of amino-functionalized n-alkyl methacrylate ester-based biohybrids. Ternary poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate-co-glycidyl methacrylate-co-hydroxypropyl methacrylate)/sodium-alginate, PDGH/ALG, hybrids were designed using anionic polysaccharide through in-situ radical polymerization. An insight into the effect of ALG on physicochemical structure of ternary hybrids, particularly the interactions between polymeric chains, was created.

The starting point for the preparation of polymeric membranes by phase inversion is having a thermodynamically stable solution. Ternary diagrams for the polymer, solvent, and non-solvent can predict this stability by identifying the phase separation and describing the thermodynamic behavior of the membrane formation process. Given the lack of data for the ternary system water (HO)/hydrochloric acid (HCℓ)/polyamide 66 (PA66), this work employed the Flory-Huggins theory for the construction of the ternary diagrams (HO/HCℓ/PA66 and HO/formic acid (FA)/PA66) by comparing the experimental data with theoretical predictions.

We developed a unique water droplet templating method to fabricate polymer films with three-dimensionally ordered porous structures. This technique is based on a polymer/solvent/HO ternary system, and the key is to choose a volatile and hydrophobic solvent that is slightly miscible with HO. With the fast evaporation of the solvent, water droplets separate from the casting solution and condense from the air to act as pore templates inside the film and on the surface, respectively.
