Dental students in the clinical courses of prosthodontics manufactured maxillary cast partial dentures from 6 nickel-containing alloys according to set guidelines. Prior to insertion as well as up to 7 days after insertion resting saliva samples were collected and analyzed for their nickel contents with the aid of atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) using a graphite tube. 20 min after insertion the salivary nickel levels were above the blank value. After 3 h the salivary nickel levels were as half as high compared to values of 20 min. After 7 days for most alloys they decreased to the starting values again.

Since the biological activities and toxicities of 'foreign' and/or excess levels of metal ions are predominantly determined by their precise molecular nature, here we have employed high-resolution H NMR analysis to explore the 'speciation' of paramagnetic Ni(II) ions in human saliva, a potentially rich source of biomolecular Ni(II)-complexants/chelators. These studies are of relevance to the corrosion of nickel-containing metal alloy dental prostheses (NiC-MADPs) in addition to the dietary or adverse toxicological intake of Ni(II) ions by humans. Unstimulated whole-mouth human saliva samples were obtained from n = 12 pre-fasted (≥8 h) healthy participants, and clear whole-mouth salivary supernatants (WMSSs) were obtained from these via centrifugation.

Herein, we demonstrate the detection of glucose in a noninvasive and nonenzymatic manner by utilizing an extended gate field-effect transistor (EGFET) based on the organic molecule pyrene phosphonic acid (PyPOH) incorporated nickel metal-organic framework (Ni). The prepared electrode responds selectively to glucose instead of sucrose, fructose, maltose, ascorbic acid, and uric acid in a 1× phosphate buffer saline solution. Also, utilizing the scanning Kelvin probe system, the sensing electrode's work function (Φ) is measured to validate the glucose-sensing mechanism.

Introduction: This study is an attempt to assess whether the usage of headphones could minimize the nickel ion release from fixed orthodontic appliance compared with hand-held mobile phones. The aim of the study is to validate the hypothesis whether there is a significant variation in nickel ion release from fixed orthodontic appliance among the patients using hand-held mobile phones and patients using mobile earphones.
Materials And Methods: This is a cross-sectional study where a total of 60 healthy individuals who were undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Adhiparasakthi Dental College and Hospital, Melmaruvathur, Chennai, India, and all these individuals were bonded and banded.
