Background: Haemodialysis patients are exposed to high levels of oxidative stress, perhaps contributing to increased rates of cardiovascular and malignant disease. In this context, the body's defence mechanisms against oxidative insult, including activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), are known to be deranged.
Methods: This randomised double-blind study assessed the effects of a novel micronutrient cocktail containing physiological doses of antioxidant vitamins and trace minerals on antioxidant enzyme activity in maintenance haemodialysis. Thirty-seven patients were randomised to receive placebo or micronutrient. SOD and GPx activity was analysed at baseline and after 6 months of treatment.
Results: SOD levels did not change in the treatment group but fell significantly (p=0.0443) in controls, while activity of GPx remained unchanged in controls but rose significantly (p=0.0123) in treated patients.
Conclusions: These results are consistent with a beneficial effect of the cocktail on antioxidant enzyme activity and may contribute to an indication for large-scale studies to assess clinical outcome measures.

Introduction: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between blood pressure variability (BPV), crystalloid osmotic pressure, and cardiovascular events (CEs) in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD).
Methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted on 71 patients with end-stage kidney disease who underwent hemodialysis at Beilun District People's Hospital from September 2021 to September 2022. The patients were divided into two groups based on the occurrence of CEs: a cardiovascular event group and a non-cardiovascular event group.

Background: The number of people undergoing maintenance hemodialysis is increasing rapidly worldwide. Central vein stenosis (CVS) is a common vascular complication in undergoing hemodialysis, especially those with a history of catheterization. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of CVS and the clinical effectiveness of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) alone and sequential percutaneous transluminal stenting (PTS) in hemodialysis patients with CVS.

Introduction: In China, an increasing number of patients with end-stage renal disease are undergoing hemodialysis treatment. While this treatment yields relatively positive outcomes, the prevalence of cognitive impairment in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis ranges from 24 to 80%, which is significantly higher than the general population.
Method: In this retrospective study, a total of 120 patients with kidney disease undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) were enrolled.

Background: This research aimed to identify risk factors contributing to premature maturation of arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) in elderly diabetic patients and develop a clinical prediction model.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 548 geriatric diabetic patients who underwent AVF creation for maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) at Baoding No 1 Central Hospital between January 2011 and December 2023. Patients were divided into mature (386) and immature (162) groups based on AVF maturation status.
