Alkali-metal-ion extraction reactions using poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE; AEP reactions) were performed on two kinds of α-NaFeO(2)-type layered compounds: Na(0.68)(Li(0.68/3)Ti(1-0.68/3))O(2) and K(0.70)(Li(0.70/3)Sn(1-0.70/3))O(2). At 400 °C in flowing argon, these layered compounds were reacted with PTFE. By these reactions, alkali-metal ions in the layered compounds were successfully extracted, and TiO(2) and SnO(2) with rutile-type structure were formed. The structural similarity between the alkali-metal-ion-extracted layered compounds and the binary metal oxide products in these unique alkali-metal-ion extraction reactions was interpreted in terms of their interatomic distance distribution by atomic pair distribution function analysis. The results of this study indicate that PTFE is an effective agent to extract alkali-metal ions from layered compounds, and AEP reaction is not limited to the previously reported γ-FeOOH-type layered titania K(0.8)(Li(0.27)Ti(1.73))O(4), but is also applicable to other layered titania and other non-titanium-based layered metal oxides. Therefore, it was clarified that AEP reactions are widely applicable routes to prepare various compounds, including those that are difficult to synthesize by other reactions.

This work investigates the solid-state reaction between iridium and zirconium carbide, resulting in the formation of carbon and ZrIr-an intermetallic compound of great interest for modern high-temperature materials science. We have found a transition of kinetic regimes in this reaction: from linear kinetics (when the chemical reaction is a limiting stage) at 1500 and 1550 °C to 'non-parabolic kinetics' at 1600 °C. Non-parabolic kinetics is characterized by the thickness of the product layer being proportional to a power of time less than 1/2.

A deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying transition metal-catalyzed transformation is crucial for developing innovative strategies to synthesize chiral organoselenium compounds. In this study, we developed and investigated a three-layer chirality relay model for the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydroselenation of alkenes through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In the back layer of this model, the four bulky substituents on the phosphorus atom of the bidentate chiral MeO-BIPHEP ligand were positioned on axial and equatorial bonds, thereby influencing the configuration of the middle layer.

The oil film formed by the adhesion of crude oil to the resin-asphalt adsorption layer is difficult to peel off due to the strong oil-solid interaction, which severely limits further improvements in oil recovery. Although conventional compound oil displacement systems can effectively reduce oil-water interfacial tension, facilitate oil droplet deformation, and alleviate the Jamin effect, they are insufficient in controlling the wettability of oleophilic rock surfaces. In this paper, sodium nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (NPES) and sodium lauric acid ethanolamine sulfonate (HLDEA) were compounded to construct an efficient oil displacement system that simultaneously achieves wettability control of lipophilic surfaces and ultralow oil-water interfacial tension.

Octacalcium phosphate (OCP) has been used as a bone replacement material due to its higher bone affinity. However, the mechanism of affinity has not been clarified. Since the 100 crystalline plane of OCP is closely involved in the biological reactions during osteogenesis, it is important to expose the 100 crystalline plane of OCP to the biological fluid to precisely measure the interfacial reactions.

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) represents a multifaceted set of neurodevelopmental conditions marked by social deficits and repetitive behaviors. Astragaloside IV (ASIV), a natural compound derived from the traditional Chinese herb Astragali Radix, exhibits robust neuroprotective effects. However, whether ASIV can ameliorate behavioral deficits in ASD remains unknown.
