A term baby developed hypoventilation on day 1 of life requiring mechanical ventilation and had subsequent difficulty in weaning. Diagnostic workup for pulmonary, cardiac, metabolic, sepsis and structural CNS diseases were negative. In view of persistent hypoventilation despite raised pCO(2) levels in absence of any sedation, the diagnosis of Idiopathic. Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS) was considered. The baby was tested for Paired-like Homeobox 2B (PHOX2B) gene mutation and was found to have expanded alleles containing 10 polyalanine repeats producing genotype of 20/30 on chromosome 4p12 (The normal being 20/20). This is the first report of a neonate from India with genetically confirmed CCHS.

Fontan-associated liver disease (FALD) may be caused by chronic liver congestion due to high central venous pressure (CVP). Recently, the usefulness of liver native T1 mapping in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in adulthood has been reported. To evaluate the usefulness of native liver T1 mapping in children with congenital heart disease (CHD), we investigated the utility of native liver T1 relaxation time (LT1) in pediatric Fontan patients in comparison to other CHDs.

Background: Adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) can face a lifelong risk of premature cardiovascular events. Endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness may be some of the key mechanisms involved. Early identification of endothelial damage in ACHD could be crucial to mitigate the adverse events.

Complete transposition of the great arteries is a common life-threatening complex cyanotic congenital heart disease in infants, resulting in the operation usually performed about one week after birth. However, little is known about the surgical strategy and experience of transposition of the great arteries with an intact ventricular septum in older patients. Herein, we present an abandoned 7-year-old boy with severe cyanosis with clubbed fingers and toes and then diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries with an intact ventricular septum, atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, and pulmonary hypertension.

The Diabetes in Pregnancy Program Project Grant (PPG) was a 15-year program focused on enhancing the care for women with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) during pregnancy and improving the well-being of their offspring. Launched in July 1978 at the University of Cincinnati, the PPG pursued a multifaceted research agenda encompassing basic science, animal and placental studies, and maternal and neonatal clinical trials to understand the physiological and pathophysiological aspects of IDDM during pregnancy. A total of 402 singleton pregnancies in 259 women with IDDM were enrolled prior to 10 weeks gestation over the 15-year period.

Introduction: The prevalence of myopia has increased significantly in recent years including an earlier onset of myopia development on the pediatric population. The main objective of the study is to compare CUVAF (Conjunctival Ultraviolet Autofluorescence) in children with and without myopia to validate its usefulness as an outdoor protective biomarker.
Methods: A case-control observational study was conducted in a child cohort from subjects that attended to the Ophthalmology Department of Clínica Universidad de Navarra for an ophthalmological examination.
