Enantiomeric separation of chiral molecules is pivotal for exploring fundamental questions about life's origin and many other fields. Crystallisation is an important platform for the separation of chiral molecules, elegantly applied to many systems, for instance, the formation of conglomerates, where the enantiomers crystallise as separate phases. Many approaches have been proposed to explore crystallisation-driven enantiomeric separation with fewer insights into the complex pathways associated with the separation processes.

Ferroelectric nematic (N) liquid crystals combine liquid-like fluidity and orientational order of conventional nematics with macroscopic electric polarization comparable in magnitude to solid-state ferroelectric materials. Here, we present a systematic study of twenty-seven homologous materials with various fluorination patterns, giving new insight into the molecular origins of spontaneous polar ordering in fluid ferroelectric nematics. Beyond our initial expectations, we find the highest stability of the N phase to be in materials with specific fluorination patterns rather than the maximal fluorination, which might be expected based on simple models.

High-performance solar interface evaporators provide a promising, sustainable, and cost-effective solution to the global freshwater crisis through seawater purification. However, achieving a delicate balance between maximizing the evaporation rate and ensuring continuous, stable, and durable operation presents a critical challenge. Herein, we present a biomimetic cellulose/polypyrrole-coated silica/graphene evaporator with self-assembled nanofiber networks and vertically aligned vessels for enhanced salt resistance.

Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDCs) can be combined with organic semiconductors to form hybrid van der Waals heterostructures. Specially, non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) stand out due to their excellent absorption and exciton diffusion properties. Here, we couple monolayer tungsten diselenide (ML-WSe) with two well performing NFAs, ITIC, and IT-4F (fluorinated ITIC) to achieve hybrid architectures.
