Article Abstract

Context: Hidradenocarcinoma is a rare carcinoma of high malignant potential. It most metastasizes to regional lymph nodes and distant viscera.

Case Report: We report a case of 52-year-old woman who presented with an invasive hidradenocarcinoma of the finger, treated with surgical excision. The patient presented with skin and lymph node metastases four years after, treated by chemotherapy.

Conclusion: Hidradenocarcinoma is an aggressive tumor. It seems important to use adjuvant therapies particularly for recurrent and metastatic forms.

Hidradenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare neoplasm that typically occurs in the head and neck region but seldom affects the chest wall. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry remain essential for diagnosing HAC, although their clinical utility in determining metastasis can be limited. Given the pathological rarity and histopathological heterogeneity of HAC, we report a case demonstrating the utility of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) combined with immunohistochemical examination for the accurate diagnosis and staging of HAC.

The parotid gland is a rare site for distant metastasis. We aim to provide an overview of metastatic tumours to the parotid over the past 20 years, focusing on clinicopathological analysis of 14 rare diagnoses. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first group to present the most up-to-date and largest case series on unusual metastases to the parotid.

Article Synopsis
  • Forequarter amputation (FQA) involves the surgical removal of the upper limb and shoulder girdle, conducted over a two-year period at a cancer center in Northeast India, where 7 patients underwent this procedure and 15 patients had limb salvage surgery.
  • The study revealed a male-to-female ratio of 3:4, with a median patient age of 32 years, and various histological diagnoses including osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma, among others.
  • Follow-up showed that five patients experienced distant recurrence, mostly within 3 to 8 months, while two patients were disease-free after 17 and 18 months, indicating some

Article Synopsis
  • Hidradenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare type of skin cancer, and this study aims to provide the first systematic review and update on its diagnosis and management based on existing data and a case series from the authors' institution.* -
  • The research analyzed 225 studies with 165 HAC cases, revealing that HAC typically presents in 60-year-old patients, predominantly affecting the head and neck region, with over a third of cases presenting or progressing to metastatic disease.* -
  • Early detection and correct histological evaluation are essential for HAC, with wide local excision being the main treatment option; however, Mohs micrographic surgery may offer better outcomes and lower metastasis risk.*
