A Mach-Zehnder interferometer is employed to detect localized corrosion at the metal/solution interface in the potentiodynamic sweep of the iron electrode in solutions. During the electrochemical reactions, local variations of the electrolyte's refractive index, which correlate with the concentration of dissolved species, change the optical path length (OPL) of the object beam when the beam passes through the electrolyte. The distribution of the OPL difference was obtained to present the concentration change of the metal ions visually, which enable direct evidence of corrosion processes. The OPL difference distribution shows localized and general corrosion during the anodic dissolution of the iron electrode in solutions with and without chloride ions, respectively. This method provides an approach for dynamic detection of localized corrosion at the metal/solution interface.

Electrochemical reduction technology is a promising method for addressing the persistent contamination of groundwater by chlorinated hydrocarbons. Current research shows that electrochemical reductive dechlorination primarily relies on direct electron transfer (DET) and active hydrogen (H) mediated indirect electron transfer processes, thereby achieving efficient dechlorination and detoxification. This paper explores the influence of the molecular charge structure of chlorinated hydrocarbons, including chlorolefin, chloroalkanes, chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, and chloro-carboxylic acid, on reductive dechlorination from the perspective of molecular electrostatic potential and local electron affinity.

The current piston material, Al-12Si, lacks sufficient passivation in the acidic lubrication system of biodiesel engines, making it prone to corrosion in the presence of Cl. Fe amorphous particles exhibit good compatibility with Al-12Si, possessing strong corrosion resistance, excellent passivation ability, and good high-temperature stability. They are a potential reinforcement for enhancing the Al-12Si piston material.

Comparative analysis of cavitation erosion behavior in wire-arc directed energy deposition and cast nickel-aluminum bronze alloys.

In this study, the cavitation erosion (CE) behavior of wire-arc directed energy deposition (DED) nickel-aluminum bronze (NAB) alloys is compared with that of cast alloys, and the synergistic effect between corrosion and CE is investigated. The CE resistance of the wire-arc DED NAB alloy is better than that of the cast alloys. The CE of NAB alloys preferentially occurs at the boundaries of the α-Cu and residual β phases, and in the matrix around the κ phase.

Titanium alloy is known for its low thermal conductivity, small elastic modulus, and propensity for work hardening, posing challenges in predicting surface quality post high-speed milling. Since surface quality significantly influences wear resistance, fatigue strength, and corrosion resistance of parts, optimizing milling parameters becomes crucial for enhancing service performance. This paper proposes a milling parameter optimization method utilizing the snake algorithm with multi-strategy fusion to improve surface quality.

Intermetallic RNiSi (R = Ca, La, and Y) Catalysts with Electron-Rich Ni Sites for Continuous Flow Selective Hydrogenation of Maleic Anhydride.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

The industrial advancement of downstream products resulting from the directed hydrogenation of maleic anhydride is hindered by the limitations related to the activity and stability of catalysts. The development of nonprecious metal intermetallic compounds, in which active sites are adjustable in the local structures and electronic properties embedded within a distinct framework, holds immense potential in enhancing catalytic efficacy and stability. Herein, we report that nickel-based silicides catalysts, RNiSi (R = Ca, La, and Y), afford high efficiency in the selective hydrogenation of maleic anhydride.
