Air bath ovens are standard in conventional gas chromatography (GC) instruments because of their simplicity and reliability for column temperature control. However, their low heating rates, high power consumption and bulky size are in conflict with the increasing demands for fast separation and portable instrumentation. The deficiencies of air bath ovens can be eliminated using resistive heating technology, as the column is conductively heated by compact resistive heaters with low thermal mass. Resistive heating methods were employed in the early years of GC history, and they are emerging again as instrumentation is becoming more compact and sophisticated. Numerous designs have been tested and some have been successfully commercialized. Development of portable GC systems, including lab-on-a-chip devices, greatly benefits from the use of small, low-power resistive heating hardware. High speed GC separations using conventional instruments also can be best achieved with resistive heating modules. Despite some of its own inherent disadvantages, including efficiency loss, complex manufacturing and inconvenient column maintenance, resistive heating is expected to rapidly become a mature technology and even replace oven heating in the not-to-distant future.

Converting natural vegetation to croplands alters the local land surface energy budget. Here, we use two decades of satellite data and a physics-based framework to analyse the biophysical mechanisms by which croplands influence daily mean land surface temperature (LST). Globally, 60% of croplands exhibit an annual warming effect, while 40% have a cooling effect compared to their surrounding natural ecosystems.

Perioperative hypothermia is a frequent clinical complication resulting from the cold environment of the operating room and prolonged skin exposure, leading to adverse outcomes and increased healthcare burdens. To address this issue, this narrative review discusses in detail the currently common warming strategies for perioperative hypothermia .Forced air warming (FAW) systems are widely recognized as the most effective intervention for maintaining core body temperature.

The manufacturing of soy-based adhesives with high bonding strength, excellent water resistance, and exceptional environmental performance still faces difficulties. In this work, using glyoxal-urea (GU) resin, chitosan (CS), and soy protein isolate (SPI) as the primary raw materials in order to effectively mitigate the release of free formaldehyde commonly found in traditional wood-based panels. Obtaining an adhesive with high strength, excellent water resistance, and a stable cross-linking structure of GU/CS/SPI (CS represents different mass fractions of chitosan solution).

Due to their outstanding electrical and thermal properties, graphene and related materials have been proposed as ideal candidates for the development of lightweight systems for thermoelectric applications. Recently, the nanolaminate architecture that entails alternation of continuous graphene monolayers and ultrathin polymer films has been proposed as an efficient route for the development of composites with impressive physicochemical properties. In this work, we present a novel layer-by-layer approach for the fabrication of highly ordered, flexible, heat-resistant, and electrically conductive freestanding graphene/polymer nanolaminates through alternating Marangoni-driven self-assembly of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and poly(ether imide) (PEI) films.

A self-healing superhydrophobic coating was successfully prepared in the present work. The coating comprised PEG (polyethylene glycol) and FeO nanoparticles modified with stearic acid (SA) via hydrogen bonds, using polyamide resin and epoxy as binders. The chemically damaged surface could restore its original superhydrophobic structure and chemical composition after 4 h at room temperature or 10 min of heating in an oven with a self-healing efficiency of 95.
