The quadrivalent second-generation platinum complex iproplatin and an in vivo divalent metabolite of iproplatin, cis-dichloro-bis-isopropylamine platinum (CIP) were tested for binding to DNA in vitro. DNA binding was determined according to radioactivity measured using [14C]-iproplatin and [14C]-CIP and also by platinum content. Results indicate that (a) iproplatin shows negligible binding to DNA, (b) CIP binds to DNA in a time-dependent fashion, and (c) the isopropylamine ligand is intact when CIP is bound to DNA. Glutathione (GSH) inhibits the binding of CIP to DNA, possibly by inhibiting binding to DNA of the aquated form of CIP.

1,3,4-Oxadiazole-based heterocyclic analogs (3a-3m) were synthesized cyclization of Schiff bases with substituted aldehydes in the presence of bromine and acetic acid. The structural clarification of synthesized molecules was carried out with various spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR,H and C-NMR, UV-visible spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. antifungal activity was performed against , and and analogs 3g, 3i, and 3m showed potent MIC at 200 µg/ml and excellent ZOI measurements of 17-21 nm.

Three water-soluble Mn(III)-porphyrin complexes with cationic pyridyl side groups bearing COOH- or OH-terminated carbon chains in the meta or para positions have been synthesized as probes for both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and photodynamic therapy (PDT). The complexes , , and are highly water-soluble, and their relaxivities range between 10 and 15 mM s, at 20-80 MHz and 298 K, 2-3 times higher than that of commercial Gd(III)-based agents. The complexes containing carboxylate () or alcoholic () side chains in the para position are endowed with higher relaxivities and have also shown efficient photoinduced DNA cleavage and singlet oxygen (O) generation.

Palladium-catalyzed reactions between imidazo[1,2-]pyridine derivatives and 4-bromo-2,2-dialkyl-substituted 2-chromenes under microwave irradiation at 100 W, 120 °C for 20-30 min provided a series of new 3-(2,2-dialkyl-2-chromen-4-yl)-2-phenylimidazo[1,2-]pyridine derivatives in good to excellent yields. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed through spectroscopic techniques (NMR and HRMS). The X-ray single-crystal structure of compound 16e was also determined.

The increasing incidence of bacterial infections has led to rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a significant concern in public health across the globe. Henceforth, there is an urgency to address the AMR catastrophe, including developing new antibiotics, promoting the appropriate use of existing antibiotics, and investing more in research and development. Development of potent antibiotic derivatives is the call of the day.
