Mixed ligand complexes of ruthenium(II), [Ru(itpy)(bpy)Cl]ClO(4)1, [Ru(itpy)(phen)Cl]ClO(4)2, [Ru(bitpy)(bpy)Cl]ClO(4)3 and [Ru(bitpy)(phen)Cl]ClO(4)4 have been synthesized and characterized. Complex 3 has also been characterized crystallographically. These complexes exhibit photolability of the Ru-Cl bond. Upon irradiation at 440 nm in the presence of nucleosides and nucleotides the complexes exchange chloride for the nucleoside or nucleotide. The photolability of the Ru-Cl bond depends on the nature of the substituent in the tridentate tpy ligand. Photolysis of the complexes in the presence of a nucleoside or nucleotide also produces 8-oxoguanine due to the oxidation of guanine by the excited states of the complexes. These four complexes exhibit photonuclease properties and bring about the cleavage of plasmid DNA when irradiated at 440 nm. These complexes have been found to be toxic towards NIH 3T3 cells under photolytic conditions.

A novel additive method to boost the Seebeck coefficient of doped conjugated polymers without a significant loss in electrical conductivity is demonstrated. Perovskite (CsPbBr) quantum dots (QDs) passivated by ligands with long alkyl chains are mixed with a conjugated polymer in a solution phase to form polymer-QD blend films. Solution sequential doping of the blend film with AuCl solution not only doped the conjugated polymer but also decomposed the QDs, resulting in a doped conjugated polymer film embedded with separated ions dissociated from the QDs.

The literature shows a lack of significant research on the synthesis of large spherical PbTe quantum dots (QDs), particularly with controllable sizes and morphology. Here, we present for the first time a novel hot-injection method for the tunable, high-quality synthesis of cubooctahedral PbTe QDs within the size range of 10 nm to 16 nm. This method employs a combination of oleic acid (OA) with shorter carboxylic acids, including octanoic (OctA), decanoic (DA), and lauric acids (LA), tested at various volumetric ratios.

Conjugated coordination polymers (c-CPs), a novel class of organic-inorganic hybrid materials, are distinguished by their unique structural characteristics and exceptional charge transport properties. The electronic properties of these materials are critically determined by the constituting coordination atoms, with electron-rich selenol ligands emerging as promising candidates for constructing high-mobility semiconducting c-CPs. Currently, c-CPs incorporating selenium-substituted ligands remain scarce.

Monocyclic π-aromatic compounds are ubiquitous throughout almost all fields of natural sciences-as synthons in industrial processes, as ligands of metal complexes for catalysis or sensing and as bioactive molecules. Planar organocycles stand out through their specific way of overcoming electron deficiency by a non-localizable set of (4n + 2)π electrons. By contrast, all-metal aromatic monocycles are still rare, as metal atoms prefer to form clusters with multiply bonded atoms instead.

A multiscale approach is employed to investigate the interaction dynamics between interleukin-6, a key cancer biomarker, and alkyl-functionalized surfaces, with the ultimate goal of guiding biosensor design. The study integrates classical molecular dynamics, Brownian dynamics simulations, and binding experiments to explore the adsorption dynamics and energetics of IL-6 on surfaces modified with self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). The comparative analysis reveals a dramatic effect on the interaction strength of IL-6 with a SAMs comprising a mix of charged and hydrophobic ligands.
