Due to their ability to integrate into the host cell's genome, retroviruses represent an optimal basis for the creation of gene therapy vectors. The integration reaction is carried out by a viral enzyme integrase: thus, a detailed research of this enzyme is required. In this work, the catalytic properties of human foamy virus integrase were studied. This virus belongs to the Retroviridae family. The dissociation constant was determined, together with the kinetics of integrase catalytic activity. The data obtained were compared to those for the human immunodeficiency virus integrase and a considerable similarity in the activity of the two enzymes was observed.

Background: Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is a highly prevalent disease, especially in the elderly population, but there are no effective drug therapies other than aortic valve repair or replacement. CAVD develops preferentially on the fibrosa side, while the ventricularis side remains relatively spared through unknown mechanisms. We hypothesized that the fibrosa is prone to the disease due to side-dependent differences in transcriptomic patterns and cell phenotypes.

Foam cell formation is a hallmark of atherosclerosis, yet the cellular complexity within foam cells in human plaques remains unexplored. Here, we integrate published single-cell RNA-sequencing, spatial transcriptomic, and chromatin accessibility sequencing datasets of human atherosclerotic lesions across eight distinct studies. Through this large-scale integration of patient-derived information, we identified foamy macrophages enriched for genes characteristic of the foamy signature.

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a non-LCH, characterized by multi-organ involvement, typical imaging findings, and confirmatory histological studies. A case with multi-organ involvement and histological confirmation is presented.

We obtained the near-complete simian foamy virus (SFV) genome from an infected human bitten by an African green monkey ( SFVcae_hu501). The genome is 13,062 nucleotides long with the classical SFV genome structure. Phylogenetically, SFVcae_hu501 clustered closely with SFV from (SFVagm_LK3).
