Background: The use of the bone-seeking properties of bisphosphonates (BPs) to target the delivery of therapeutic drugs is a promising approach for the treatment of bone metastases. Currently, the most advanced example of this approach is a gemcitabine-ibandronate conjugate (GEM-IB), where the bone-targeting BP ibandronate (IB) is covalently linked to the antineoplastic agent gemcitabine (GEM) via a spacer phosphate group. In the present study, we describe the development of a new analytical platform to evaluate the metabolism and pharmacokinetics of GEM-IB in mice and dogs and the results of proof-of-concept studies assessing the pharmacokinetics of GEM-IB in dogs and mice.

Proficiency-chasing and goalodicy: In prioritising checklists, are we gambling with the future of mental health nursing?

Nurse Educ Today

In this discussion paper, I take a critical approach to the use of standardised checklists in practice assessment documents as a valid method of assessing mental health nursing students in the UK. The game Bingo is applied here as a metaphor, highlighting the folly of using standardised cross-field checklists to assess mental health nursing students in practice. Such practices, I argue, amount to little more than a game of proficiency-chasing at the expense of seeking more meaningful learning experiences, especially where practice assessment documents currently prioritise physical health care skills above those required for successful mental health nursing.

The ideal evaluation of diagnostic test performance requires a reference test that is free of errors. However, for many diseases, obtaining such a "gold standard" reference is either impossible or prohibitively expensive. Estimating test accuracy in the absence of a gold standard is therefore a significant challenge.

Background: Inappropriate dietary, exercise, and medication self-care behaviors among persons with diabetes can easily trigger hypoglycemia. Clinically, it is necessary to quickly identify high-risk groups for hypoglycemic events to provide targeted hypoglycemia education. However, there is currently a lack of precise tools to assess self-care behaviors related to hypoglycemia.
