Article Synopsis
  • This study explores how the deworming drug closantel (CST) can reverse colistin resistance in mcr-1-positive E. coli, filling a gap in research on dosage for adjuvants in clinical therapy.
  • Utilizing various methods, the research demonstrates that CST has a unique dose-response relationship that is not reliant on higher concentrations for effectiveness.
  • The findings suggest that CST not only prevents the development of colistin resistance but also shows promising therapeutic effects when combined with colistin in a mouse infection model.

Two controlled efficacy studies were conducted to determine the effective dose of fosfatriclaben (FTCB) and compare its fasciolicidal efficacy with that of three commercial products against eggs and adult stages of Fasciola hepatica in artificially infected cattle. In study 1, 20 trematode-free Holstein Friesian steers were infected on day 0 with 500 F. hepatica metacercariae.

Haemonchus contortus and Trichostrongylus colubriformis are the most important gastrointestinal nematodes causing serious losses in sheep production of tropical and subtropical regions. Prophylaxis of gastrointestinal nematode infections is based on anthelmintics use, but their frequent administration selects multiple-resistant parasites. To evaluate how the situation has changed over the last decades, the anthelmintic resistance status of gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep flocks was assessed in the current study and compared to previous surveys.

Fasciola hepatica infections lead to severe health problems and production losses in sheep farming, if not treated effectively. Triclabendazole has been used extensively over decades due to its unique efficacy range against all definitive hostfluke stages but published data about the susceptibility of F. hepatica to anthelmintics in Germany are lacking.
