Cyclin d1 expression and its correlation with histopathological differentiation in oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Published: October 2012

Background: Cyclin D1 regulates the G1 to S transition of cell cycle. Its deregulation or overexpression may lead to disturbance in the normal cell cycle control and tumour formation. Overexpression of cyclin D1 has been reported in various tumors of diverse histogenesis. This case control retrospective study was carried out to study the immunohistochemical reactivity and expression of cyclin D1 and its association with site, clinical staging, and histopathological differentiation of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Methods: Forty formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of biopsy specimens of oral squamous cell carcinoma were immunohistochemically evaluated for expression of cyclin D1.

Results: Cyclin D1 expression was seen in 45% cases of OSCC. It did not correlate with site and clinical staging. Highest expression was seen in well-differentiated, followed by moderately differentiated, and poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinomas, with a statistically significant correlation.

Conclusion: Cyclin D1 expression significantly increases with increase in differentiation.

The utilization of plant-derived exosome-like nanovesicles (ELNs) as nanocarriers for oral delivery of bioactives has garnered significant attention. However, their distinctive lipid membrane composition may result in elevated membrane permeability within the gastrointestinal environment, leading to the leakage of carried bioactives. Inspired by the concept of projectile design, Tartary buckwheat-derived ELNs (TB-ELNs) based dual-carriers are fabricated by loading chlorogenic acid (CGA) into the cores and bonding selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) to the lipid membrane.

This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of camrelizumab combined with platinum-based chemotherapy (taxanes [T] or fluorouracil agents [F] plus platinum [P] drugs) as the first-line treatment in advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), using immune repertoire sequencing (IRS) to explore treatment response mechanism. In this multi-center, prospective cohort study, 88 patients received camrelizumab plus TP or FP, achieving a 1-year progression-free survival of 56.8% and overall survival of 68.

Objective: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a complex disease characterized by diverse cellular ecosystems within the tumor microenvironment (TME) and high tumor heterogeneity, which challenges clinically stratified management and reinforces the need for novel strategies to fight against castration-resistant PCa (CRPC).

Methods: We performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) on 10 untreated primary PCa tissues and integrated public scRNA-seq resources from three normal prostate tissues, two untreated primary PCa tissues, and six CRPC tumors to portray a comprehensive cellular and molecular interaction atlas of PCa. We further integrated the single-cell and bulk transcriptomes of PCa to establish a molecular classification system.

Objective: This study aims to assess the mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor's (c-MET) prognostic value in oesophageal carcinoma (ESCA) through a meta-analysis and bioinformatics.

Methods: We analysed c-MET expression in ESCA tissues using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate its association with clinicopathological factors and survival outcomes. The meta-analysis included studies reporting hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) for survival and metastatic outcomes.

This study aimed to synthesize cetuximab (CTX) conjugated hydroxyapatite zirconium (HApZr-CTX) as a nanocarrier for active delivery of photosensitizer and therapeutic radionuclide. The system enabled targeted radioenhancer in X-ray dynamic therapy and radioimmunotherapy for lung cancer. The results showed that HApZr-CTX had the main characteristics of hydroxyapatite crystal in X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), with particle size twice bigger, according to DLS-PSA and TEM measurements.
