Bioassay-guided fractionation of the methanolic extract of the root of Ehretia longiflora (Boraginaceae) afforded eight compounds, ehretiquinone (1), ehretiolide (2), ehreticoumarin (3), ehretilactone A (4), ehretilactone B (5), ehretiamide (6), ehretine (7), and ehretiate (8), together with 12 known compounds (9-20). The relative configuration of 1 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Among the isolates, 1 and prenylhydroquinone (14) showed antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain H37Rv with MIC values of 25.0 and 26.2 μg/mL, respectively. Moreover, 1 exhibited inhibitory effects on N-formylmethionylleucylphenylalanine (fMLP)-induced superoxide production, with IC₅₀ value of 0.36±0.03μM.

Electronic address:

Two new meroterpenoids, arneuchrols A and B (1 and 2), together with twelve known analogs (3-14) were isolated from the root of Arnebia euchroma. The structures of 1 and 2 including their absolute configurations were elucidated by NMR, HRESIMS, and DFT calculation of their NMR and ECD data. The structure of pseudoshikonin I, firstly isolated from Lithospermi radix was revised as shikonofuran E (4).

Micromorphological and phytochemical studies play a major role in quality control and standardization of traditional or herbal medications. In the present research, micromorphological assessment of Heliotropium rarifloum stocks was performed through light and scanning electron microscopies (LM & SEM). The anatomy of leaves, stem and root showed salient histological features.

Alkannin is a plant-derived naphthoquinone that is isolated from the Boraginaceae family plants. In our previous studies, we found that shikonin, which is the -enantiomer of alkannin, has potent antidiabetic activity by inhibiting the action of the aldose reductase (AR) enzyme and the protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B). Therefore, in this study, we aim to explore the antidiabetic effect of alkannin targeting PTP1B and AR by employing and techniques.

The chemical contents of the endemic roots collected from Malatya/Türkiye were determined using the hydrodistillation and the soxhlet methods and antimicrobial activity analysis of the extracts was also performed. The hydrodistillation method applied to the roots of resulted in identifying 31 compounds according to their retention times in GC-MS analysis. Additionally, crude ethyl acetate and crude oil etheric extracts of roots contained 14 compounds each.
