Nature has gifted mankind with a plethora of flora-bearing fruits, vegetables and nuts. The diverse array of bioactive nutrients present in these natural products plays a pivotal role in prevention and cure of various neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease and other neuronal dysfunctions. Accumulated evidence suggests that naturally occurring phyto-compounds, such as polyphenolic antioxidants found in fruits, vegetables, herbs and nuts, may potentially hinder neurodegeneration, and improve memory and cognitive function. Nuts such as walnut have also demonstrated neuroprotective effect against AD. The molecular mechanisms behind the curative effects rely mainly on the action of phytonutrients on distinct signalling pathways associated with protein folding and neuroinflammation. The neuroprotective effects of various naturally occurring compounds in AD is evaluating in this review.

Hybrid multicompartment artificial architectures, inherited from different compartmental systems, possess separate microenvironments that can perform different functions. Herein, a hybrid compartmentalized architecture via hybridizing ferritin nanocage (Fn) with non-aqueous droplets using aminated-modified amphiphilic gelatin (AGEL) is proposed, which enables the generation of compartmentalized emulsions with hybrid multicompartments. The resulting compartmentalized emulsions are termed "hybrasome".

The anti-Markovnikov hydrofunctionalization of terminal, unactivated olefins is an evergreen synthetic challenge in organic chemistry. Several direct and indirect anti-Markovnikov methods have been developed, ranging from the classical hydroboration/oxidation protocol to state-of-the-art photoredox catalytic, transition metal complex-catalyzed and enzymatic procedures. Despite the ever-expanding suite of synthetic capabilities, these methods still have limited generality in their substrate scope, especially with nucleophiles.

Deprotonated trimethylsilylethanol is an excellent nucleophile for Matteson homologations. It can be introduced in high yields and the products are stable under the usual basic reaction conditions. In the field of surface synthesis, various reactions driven by the catalytic effect of metal substrates, particularly the Ullmann reaction, have been thoroughly investigated. The Wurtz reaction facilitates the coupling of alkyl halides through the removal of halogen atoms with a low energy barrier on the surface; however, the preparation of novel carbon nanostructures via the Wurtz reaction has been scarcely reported. Here, we report the successful synthesis of ethyl-bridged binaphthyl molecular chains on Ag(111) at room temperature via the Wurtz reaction.
