Ultrasonography for Assessment and Intervention With Botulinum Toxin Injection for Tremors.

Ann Rehabil Med

December 2024

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, National Rehabilitation Center, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Seoul, Korea.

Objective: Tremors are caused by contractions of reciprocally innervated muscles. The role of ultrasound in diagnosing tremors has not yet been investigated, although it appears to be promising because it can visualize muscle movements. In the present study, we report four cases of tremor (Holmes' tremor, extremity tremor associated with palatal myoclonus, dystonic tremor, and tremor associated with dystonia), which were evaluated using ultrasound and treated with botulinum toxin injections.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how oropharyngeal structures like the soft palate, tongue base, and epiglottis change position and coordination during normal functions like breathing and chewing.
  • Using X-ray fluoroscopy with Yucatan minipigs, researchers digitized and analyzed movements to understand the dynamics of these structures.
  • Findings revealed significant differences in movement magnitudes during respiration and chewing, suggesting that each structure has a unique role which may help in understanding disorders like dysphagia and sleep apnea.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to improve health literacy for cleft lip and palate patients by using OpenAI's ChatGPT-4 to make patient educational materials (PEMs) easier to read.
  • PEMs were evaluated for interactive content, with readability assessed before and after AI modifications, resulting in significant improvements from a 9th-grade to a 6th-grade reading level.
  • Despite enhancements in readability, only 27% of the websites included interactive educational tools, highlighting a gap that needs to be addressed to improve patient education and engagement.

A fractured instrument (FI) in the root canal is a common complication during root canal therapy. Under current medical conditions, instrument separation cannot be completely avoided because of the complex morphology of root canals and the limited surgical field and operating space of the surgeon. FIs, especially those broken in the apical third of the canal, render it difficult to completely remove infection in the root canal, where the residual infection can easily develop into reinfection.
