A simple, reliable and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) and its metabolite caffeic acid (CA) in dog plasma was developed using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The sample pretreatment generally involved protein precipitation treatment (PPT) and direct dilution. CAPE and CA were separated with a C18 reversed-phase column. Electrospray ionization (ESI) interface operated in negative mode was chosen for ionization. Multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode was selected for data acquisition. The quantification range was 10.0-10,000.0 ng mL(-1). The intra- and inter-batch accuracies were within 92.5-107.0% with relative standard deviation (RSD, %) no more than 10.5%. CAPE and CA were proved to be stable in stabilizer-treated dog blood and PPT-treated plasma during the sampling and pretreatment period. The applicability has been evaluated with real samples from treated dogs.

To develop and evaluate graphene oxide/gelatin/alginate scaffolds for advanced wound therapy capable of mimicking the native extracellular matrix (ECM) and bio-stimulating all specific phases of the wound healing process, from inflammation and proliferation to the remodeling of damaged skin tissue in three dimensions. The scaffolds were engineered as interpenetrating polymeric networks by the crosslinking reaction of gelatin in the presence of alginate and characterized by structural, morphological, mechanical, swelling properties, porosity, adhesion to the skin tissue, wettability, and in vitro simultaneous release of the active agents. Biocompatibility of the scaffolds were evaluated in vitro by MTT test on fibroblasts (MRC5 cells) and in vivo using assay.

Background: Brussels chicory affluent in phenolic acids could inhibit atherosclerosis; however, its effects on exercise performance and post-exercise recovery are unknown. We hypothesized that Brussels chicory could enhance exhaustive aerobic exercise performance and post-exercise recovery by promoting lactate oxidation.

Methods: This is a single-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled two-way cross-over trial involving 32 untrained college students (men 18) who consumed either Brussels chicory juice (100 g of Brussels chicory containing ~130 mg phenolic acids and 180 mL fresh milk) or placebo (180 mL fresh milk) for 7 days with a 2-week washout period.

is a perennial medicinal herb with important immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, especially purported for the alleviation of cold and flu symptoms. Different classes of secondary metabolites of the plant, such as alkylamides, caffeic acid derivatives, polysaccharides, flavonoids, and glycoproteins, are believed to be biologically and pharmacologically active. Although previous research suggests that the alkylamides present in may be responsible for reducing the symptoms associated with the common cold or flu through their immunomodulatory activity, the roles of specific alkylamides and their targets (i.
