As further confirmation of a first human case of Rift Valley fever in 2007 in Comoros, we isolated Rift Valley fever virus in suspected human cases. These viruses are genetically closely linked to the 2006-2007 isolates from Kenya.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) poses a major occupational risk for healthcare workers (HCWs) in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where endemicity and resource limitations hinder effective prevention. Mandatory Hepatitis B vaccination (HepB) policies for HCWs are critical to addressing vaccination gaps, yet their implementation is challenged by dosing inconsistencies, lack of post-vaccination immunity testing, and ethical considerations. In many countries in SSA, adults are given a four-dose pediatric formulation of the vaccine due to limited access to adult formulations that require fewer doses, creating logistical challenges and increasing the risk of incomplete immunization.

Background: Although Rift valley fever (RVF) is endemic in Mauritania, with eight epidemics documented since 1987, infections among human populations, particularly in Nouakchott, the capital city of Mauritania, remain limited. The objectives of the present study were to assess the seroprevalence of RVF in humans and reconstruct the epidemiological history of RVF virus (RVFV) circulation within the city.
Methods: Using data from a cross-sectional and descriptive serological study among asymptomatic subjects conducted in Nouakchott in 2021, a mathematical model was developed to trace the seroepidemiological evolution of RVFV between 1927 and 2020 in the capital city.

Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a mosquito-borne zoonotic disease within the genus . Symptoms of the disease in animals range from moderate to severe febrile illness, which significantly impacts the livestock industry and causes severe health complications in humans. Similar to bunyaviruses in the genus transmitted by mosquitoes, RVFV progression is dependent on the susceptibility of the physical, cellular, microbial, and immune response barriers of the vectors.
