The dynamic nature of protein structures has been recognized, established, and accepted as an intrinsic fundamental property with major consequences to their function. Nowadays, proteins are considered as networks of continuous motions, which reflect local flexibility and a propensity for global structural plasticity. Protein-protein and protein-small ligand interactions, signal transduction and assembly of macromolecular machines, allosteric regulation and thermal enzymatic adaptation are processes which require structural flexibility. In general, enzymes represent an attractive class among proteins in the study of protein flexibility and they can be used as model systems for understanding the implications of protein fluctuations to biological function. Flexibility of the active site is considered as a requirement for reduction of free energy barrier and acceleration of the enzymatic reaction while there is growing evidence which concerns the connection between flexibility and substrate turnover rate. Moreover, the role of conformational flexibility has been well established in connection with the accessibility of the active site, the binding of substrates and ligands, and release of products, stabilization and trapping of intermediates, orientation of the substrate into the binding cleft, adjustment of the reaction environment, etc.

Bacterial adaptive immunity, driven by CRISPR-Cas systems, protects against foreign nucleic acids from mobile genetic elements (MGEs), like bacteriophages. The type I-E CRISPR-Cas system employs the Cascade (CRISPR-associated complex for antiviral defense) complex for target DNA cleavage, guided by crRNA. Anti-CRISPR (Acr) proteins, such as AcrIE7, counteract this defense by inhibiting Cascade activity.

Goose astrovirus (GoAstV) has emerged as a significant pathogen affecting the goose industry in China, with GoAstV-2 becoming the dominant genotype since 2017. This study explores the genetic and structural factors underlying the prevalence of GoAstV-2, focusing on codon usage bias, spike protein variability, and structural stability. Phylogenetic and effective population size analyses revealed that GoAstV-2 experienced rapid expansion between 2017 and 2018, followed by population stabilization.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy (FURL) and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) in the treatment of ureteral calculi based on decision tree model.
Methods: A total of 600 patients with ureteral calculi, including 289 treated with FURL and 311 cases with ESWL in Anqing Municipal Hospital from June 2021 to August 2023, were selected as study subjects. Perioperative indicators and stone clearance rate of the two groups were compared, and the preoperative and postoperative (24 and 72 hours) changes of serum creatinine, cystatin C (Cys-C) and microalbumin were observed.
