Air- and water-stable phenyl complexes with nitridotechnetium(V) cores can be prepared by straightforward procedures. [TcNPh(2)(PPh(3))(2)] is formed by the reaction of [TcNCl(2)(PPh(3))(2)] with PhLi. The analogous N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) compound [TcNPh(2)(HL(Ph))(2)], where HL(Ph) is 1,3,4-triphenyl-1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidene, is available from (NBu(4))[TcNCl(4)] and HL(Ph) or its methoxo-protected form. The latter compound allows the comparison of different Tc-C bonds within one compound. Surprisingly, the Tc chemistry with such NHCs does not resemble that of corresponding Re complexes, where CH activation and orthometalation dominate.

Taming highly enolizable aldehydes for catalytic asymmetric C-C coupling with nucleophiles remains an elusive challenge compared to widely explored simple alkyl or aryl aldehydes. Herein, we use ThDP-dependent enzymes to realize the direct C-C coupling of highly enolizable 2-phosphonate aldehydes with in situ-generated dynamically reversible nucleophiles (acyl anions). Unlike NHC-mediated reactions that yield complex mixtures of multiple adducts, our enzymatic process selectively produces biologically active β-hydroxy phosphonates with high yields (up to 95%) and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee).

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 6%-10% of women of reproductive age and is known to be associated with disruptions in the gut bacteria. However, the role of the gut mycobiota in PCOS pathology remains unclear. Using culture-dependent and internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2)-sequencing methods, we discovered an enrichment of the gut-colonizable fungus Aspergillus tubingensis in 226 individuals, with or without PCOS, from 3 different geographical areas within China.

Background: Activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) ameliorates LL-37-induced rosacea-like dermatitis in mice, whereas mast cells and cytokine overexpression are prominent features in rosacea skin.

Objective: To evaluate the potential mechanisms of AhR activation on autophagy and degranulation of mast cells in rosacea.

Methods: LL-37 treated mast cells were used to mimic rosacea.

Efficient catalytic systems for various organic transformations in green solvents, especially water, are in great demand. Catalytically active bis-NHC complexes of palladium(II) based on imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid with different lipophilicities were obtained. The synthesis of imidazolium salts was complicated by the formation of side products of nucleophilic substitution by iodide ions in the Menshutkin reaction involving alkyl iodides, which was successfully resolved by using alkyl tosylates.

The development of novel directing groups is a valuable strategy to secure the advancement of catalytic C-H functionalization. To illustrate the feasibility of urazoles as heterocyclic directing groups, we herein present the ruthenium(II)-catalyzed annulation of N-H/C-H bonds on -aryl urazoles with vinylene carbonate. This transformation provides the rapid construction of triazolocinnoline derivatives as hemiaminal and dehydrated forms.
