A 72-year-old woman with slowly progressive type 1 diabetes (SPIDDM) was admitted to our hospital because of increasing abdominal pain and diarrhea. The patient was diagnosed with nonocclusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI), and a subtotal colonectomy was performed successfully. The resected sample revealed transmural gangrenous necrosis of the colon and rectum. This case is interesting because the severe NOMI occurred in a SPIDDM patient without common predisposing events such as hypoperfusion. Prolonged generation of reactive oxygen species in SPIDDM, together with the decline in adaptive response to oxidative stress with aging, might be an exacerbating factor for ischemic injury in the elderly.

Microglia respond to cytotoxic protein aggregates associated with the progression of neurodegenerative disease. Pathological protein aggregates activate the microglial NLRP3 inflammasome resulting in proinflammatory signaling, secretion, and potentially pyroptotic cell death. We characterized mixed sex primary mouse microglia exposed to microbial stressors and alpha synuclein preformed fibrils (αsyn PFFs) to identify cellular mechanisms related to Parkinson's disease.

Radicular cysts are one of the most common cysts of inflammatory origin involving the maxillofacial region that arise from the remnants of Herwig's epithelial root sheath. These are often diagnosed as incidental findings on radiographs, which are seldom symptomatic and are slowly progressive. Decompression could be used as a conservative treatment approach for the management of large radicular cysts in children to have satisfactory healing and minimum damage to adjacent vital structures, simultaneously allowing the eruption of succedaneous tooth.

Background: Migraine progression, particularly from episodic to chronic migraine (CM), increases disease burden and healthcare costs. Understanding the new concept of "Medication Underuse Headache" should encourage the health care provider to consider early intervention with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) monoclonal antibodies. Galcanezumab given early in the course of the disease, may prevent migraine chronification and have a robust response, moreso than when initiated in later stages of migraine.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) and its primary chemical components, including collagen, play a pivotal role in carcinogenesis and tumor progression. The ECM actively regulates cell proliferation, migration, and, importantly, resistance to various adverse factors. It is widely recognized as a key factor in modifying the resistance of tumor cells to various treatment modalities and cytotoxic compounds.

Embryonic mammary gland development unfolds with the specification of bilateral mammary lines, thereafter progressing through placode, bud, and sprout stages before branching morphogenesis. Extensive epithelial-mesenchymal interactions guide morphogenesis from embryogenesis to adulthood. Two distinct mesenchymal tissues are involved, the primary mammary mesenchyme that harbors mammary inductive capacity, and the secondary mesenchyme, the precursor of the adult stroma.
